I'm on my second Fast Base helmet.  The first one was returned to Ops Core for service in October 2012 due to the bottom edge of the plastic shroud breaking off.  This was while removing an old and well-worn Rhino legacy mount.

Today, I was doing some maintenance on the replacement.  I removed the Rhino II mount and I'll be damned, the same thing happened.

I sent Ops Core an e-mail this afternoon and hope they will take care of me again.  Has anyone else had any recurring issues with this?

I'm thinking about getting an extra VAS shroud to keep handy in case it happens again and using a dremel to remove the rest of the plastic shroud.  Has anyone tried this?

Never had this happen with any of my units, nor have we ever been contacted by a customer having a defect like this. We move a big number of Jump helmets as well.

I must have a few hundred removals on my unit.  Is the arm mount extra tight on the Jump helmet? How many removals did it take for this one to break? I've seen them wear a bit, but never have seen one cracked away like this. Strange....

I usually leave the mount attached.  Yes, it is a tight fit with the Rhino II mount, and was with the legacy Rhino too.  I've maybe removed the mount 25 times, if that.  The helmet has been used at most 150 hours (I'd say realistically between 100 and 120) and always with a single PVS14 and either a legacy Rhino or a Rhino II.

You get that helmet from us?  If so, PM or call me and I wish you would have informed me ASAP if so.

One other question, was the 25 removable actions with the 1st or 2nd helmet?  How much approx. removals on the other helmet?

Nope, got the first one off the EE when no one had them in stock anywhere.  I had the first one for about a month before it broke.  THe second one was a replacement from OpsCore directly in November 2012.  When I said 25 removals, that is a very, very liberal guess.  I've probably used the helmet a total of 50 nights, and the Rhino just lives mounted on the helmet.  Very rare for it to be removed.

Ops Core representative said that he should hear something back from engineering by Tuesday, August 12th.  Not entirely sure what engineering department has to do with CS, but hey, what do I know?

LOL, They are just checking to see if it requires a gorilla to break the shroud, or if a redneck is capable of breaking it.

Did you purchase this from us?  If so, you would not be out of a helmet for any length of time.
