Hey guys, thinking about applying for FFL.  I have the packet already, just on the fence about it.  I want to run it from home, should I have a separate building?  Will I need to maintain a minimum inventory?  Can I perform minor smithing jobs, scope mounting, changing springs, etc..., NO machining?   Any help would be great.  Mainly interested in transfers.  Guys in my area are being GOUGED on transfer fees!

I have had mine for a dozen years.  At this point I like having guns delivered to my door when I want one.  I do a little buying and selling but don't make a living with my FFL.

You have to follow the local business and building codes, so if your local ordinances require you to have a separate building or signage etc then the ATF makes you be in compliance with those prior to issuing.  Some wholesalers will want you to be a "stocking dealer",  some are happy to sell stuff.

I do most of my transfers for free.  Mostly to friends and acquaintances.  (MOLON LABE)

definitely go for it.  ive had mine since may 2015, just a sole prop.  its nice having your guns brought right to your front door.  no 4473, no background check.  now ATF says you must be "involved" in the business, so you cant just use the FFL to get your guns.  i normally do 3-4 transfers per month.  since ive had the 01 ive made nearly 1k (and thats not including my guns).  most of the transfers i do are for friends/family and if not either I know them pretty well before they come over.  as far as the fees, i charge friends/family 15 bucks....non friends/family 25 bucks (i have a very very very low overhead, so its all profit)

you can always give your FFL up if you dont like it.  imho, the hardest part about having the FFL is waiting around for the delivery....get to know your UPS guy well
