you can still get em, just not as cheap you know how that goes....
i think DSA has STG kits still, maybe gunthings.com too
see SA kits around with alot of finish wear, inch kits are scarce as usual and imbels are much less prevalent than they had been recently.
you can find about any flavor kit ya want on FAL Files' marketplace...it's receivers and compliance parts that are hard to come by and really SPIKING in price on the secondary market .
i mean i'm all for fair trade but when i see people selling FSE HTS sets for $75+ i get a bad taste in my mouth for my 'fellow builders'
sorry, minirant off

Good luck in your search as there are still kits around but good prices disapear fast and even high prices are gone in a couple hours...  I have two Imbel kits as well as a G1 kit (One of my Imbels is built and the other two are waiting on some time) and I really like the quality of the kits that were sold by Dan's a couple years back.  These kits were about $250 a couple weeks ago (they were only about $115 two years ago) and they were in really nice shape (even the grade 3s).  I expect they are more and possibly much more now...

Here is one you might try:

I am starting to think I could actually buy an assembled FAL for about what I can build these days...  Man is that a crazy reversal of fate!

If a kit goes for $225, how much does the receiver (or whatever the FFL part is) go for?

Right now, I would say anywhere between 189 and 230?!?!?! Just a guess from looking at the Shotgun News ads and internet sources. DSA will be the highest I would imagine.

DSA receivers are going any where from $350 to $425, Imbels are drying up pretty quick and they are my choice for a forged receiver.  Dan Coonan should be producing some receivers [soon]?  The new ban will really have an effect on barrels and will drive up the price on US receivers.  Damnit.

Wait, wait.....

Are you saying you can BUILD a FAL for about $700-800, but a new one from DSA goes for $1500+?

What am I missing?

If you want some real world prices, here are my FAL projects with actual costs...

Imbel FAL on Imbel Receiver ($473.94):
www.quarterbore.net/forums/showthread.php?t=188

G1 FAL on DSA Receiver ($574.89:
www.quarterbore.net/forums/showthread.php?t=190

Imbel Carbine on DSA receiver ($714.94 and perhaps double that if I build a PARA):
www.quarterbore.net/forums/showthread.php?t=189

Basic Tools:

Building a FAL is a little more challanging then an AR-15 but much easier then building an AK!

Fine looking weapons. I like that .308 cartridge. Used to use it on deer.
