Just bought a D300-2st here on the ee.  http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=23&t=805615

I did my homework on the set before buying and feel like I spent my money wisely.  I know the PVS-14 is the shit but I don't have $3000 to spend on optics.

I already have an Aimpoint Micro on my AR, what height Aimpoint mount will work with the D300's mount?  Would the Micro / D-300 combo seem like a pretty good setup for 100-150yd hog hunting?

Thanks!

I had nearly the same set up but had to sell mine to pay some bills....you got a heck of a deal.  let me know if you want to sell it......calling dibs!!!!

anyway, I ran mine with an eotech so can't really help you on the aimpont mount.  but, with the "mil-spec" weapon mount, it lined up nicely with the eotech right on the rail...

they are awesome optics but if you want to hunt beyond 100 yards, I would highly recomend picking up a dedicated IR illuminator like victor's "DA TORCH"   I was able to have hunting accuracy and light out to about 100-125 yards in good conditions.  In poor conditions or beyond that, it got tougher for me.  The IR illuminator extended the range easily out to 150 and in most conditions....

I think the standard T1 rail grabber stock mount will co-witness with the D-300 using that PVS-14 standard GI Mil-Spec mount  fine. What AP mount are you using now?   As for hog hunting, you will see a critter walking around but not with high clarity to really see if it may be a small calf or hog at times based on your lighting environment.  Da Torch will really help out at these distances as kerr222 mentioned.   Hope this helps.

Is there a 3x magnifier for the d300?  ETA DUH< didnt look at the link> Get Da Torch from TNVC.   Then you are GTG.

Then you can make sure you aren't shooting a family dog, instead of a hog.

I use a setup similar to that with the same type tube as the d300, a 3x magnifier thru Eotech or dayscope. A little IR and you will be real happy to 100-125m depending on conditions.

I was looking at the D-300 as well. I get to play with the PVS-14's any time I want. I just can't take them out of my Armory at work for personal use.

Anyway, I have a Vortex Sparc and was considering a setup similar to that of the OP. What mount can you use for these monoculars?

With the D-300, you can use a 3x magnifier with an adapter. 2 mounts that will work with the D-300 are the Mil-Spec standard PVS-14 mount and also the PRI M69. The D-300 has the same body housing mount hole (1/4-20 thread) as the PVS.

Some other user here had made a custom mount for the D-300 early this year.  I cannot seem to find the post, but it was sharp looking.  Hope this helps.

I too just picked up a D300 and was looking around for mount options.  I want to be able to mount it on my AR behind my EOTech 553, and will later get a helmet and mount.  So looking forward to that down the road, I really like the looks of the TNVC TM14 twist mount adapter.  Will this work with a D300?  If not, is there another solution that is similar that will work with the D300?  I like the quick disconnect idea to transition quickly between handheld/weapon mounted/helmet mounted.

Another concern is space.  My AR is an A3 flattop with the 553 EOTech and BUIS on the rail.  I've currently got a stock carbine handguard which looks like I'll have to replace to have enough room for the EOTech and any mount for the NV.  I'm a fan of KISS, and not hanging a bunch of junk off my AR to keep it lite.  Right now I'm using all the top rail of the receiver for the EOTech and BUIS.  How much rail length does the twist mount base (or whatever is available to work with the D300) take up?

My rifle also has a light mounted at the front of the handguard currently, and whatever HG I decide to buy will need to accomodate this.  I'd also like to have some quickly detatchable mount for Da Torch as I'm planning to add that too.

Vic, suggestions?  Options?  Thanks!

Here's a pic of the host in it's current form too...

Man, those 553's don't give you much room to scoot it forward do they?

If you remove the BUIS I THINK you could make it happen. At least looking at some pics of a similar setup from another forum.

I would say like the poster above me to remove your BUIS and then you might make it fit.

Like you, I too am a fan of KISS ARs.  Something you could look into if you dont' have enough rail space is a VLTOR FF tube. It's not a quad rail but you can make it into one if you would like. You can even have space for an IR torch if you so choose.  It'll allow you to run a rail from your gasblock all the way to your upper and it should be seemless.  Give em' a look..just a thought.

You're right, there's not much room left, and that's with the CR123 version.  The 512's I used to have hung off the front of the receiver, but the locking bolt was in the middle, so no worries.  With the ARMS mounts, the front mount has to be on the rail.

I don't want to lose the BUIS, so I figure I'll have to go with a new HG with at least a top rail, or some top rail, so I can move the 553 forward.  Here's a side view for perspective.

I thought about keeping my stock handguards for the lightness/ comfort factor and getting a extended ARMS swan sleeve or maybe the long PEQ version  to be able to scoot everything forward a bit.  I still might, i hate the feel of the quad rail, even with covers

They (swan sleeve) are pretty cheep these days, it might be an option to get you out over the guards.

The troy TRX Extreme is another thought, very light and less rail. I like these.

Heres my setup, I could scoot the NV a little closer by turning the mount around,, but this way the eotech gets "swallowed" and out of the FOV.

ETA: There is a 1/4 "height mismatch with the AM DEF PVS14 mount, i guess they assume you have a 1/4" eotech riser already. Not ideal, but it works fine..no parallax.

b_rogers, thanks for the ideas. I kinda like the ARMS swan sleeve, but do you know if it will it fit over a stock delta ring and factory handguards? I'd lose my flip up rear sight, but with the one they offer built in (#38), that might work. Just need to know what the total available rail length is from the front of the rear sight to the end of the rail. I have sent ARMS that question.

BTW, in your picture, is that a PVS-14?

Its actually 1/2 a PVS-5 in a 14 ring mount.  A choice mx9916uv. I do have a fully functional airsoft PVS-14 shell it fits in that cj7hawk pioneered the mod for..just havent epoxied it yet.
Not a pvs-14 but it works pretty damn good. I believe several of the swan sleeve models go over standard handguards.
Heres a pic of the shell..hijack over..

heres the super long model..hacksaw?

Thanks for the picture b_rogers.  I was thinking I might cut the rail in a mill, but then the end won't have the coating.  I've also been looking at the TNVC MURLM mount, and thinking if I mounted it on the end of the top rail, I could put my flashlight on one side and a Torch on the other.  I think Da Torch may fit in the 2" flashlight mount.  Hmmm...thinking out loud here.

OK, I got the D300 today. So far, I am totally satisfied! I'm very happy with the quality of the kit. I took it out tonight for a stroll and the only thing i have to compare it to was a 1st gen scope I bought from Sportsmans Guide in 1998, no comparison. Tonight it's a bit overcast but with a moon coming through although hazily, no way I'm getting out to 100-150yds without help. I had some kids move around roughly 75yds away, while I could tell they where human shaped, I'm not sure if I could truly identify a four legged creature which is exactly what Vic had mentioned above. Da Torch is on my short list! Strapped it on my head and it works great. I'll have to train my brain on the depth perception but I guess that comes with the territory. The weapons mount has the D300 lining up perfect with my Aimpoint Micro H1 using a Weaver lower 1/3 co-witness mount. I've got it mounted on my S&W M&P15R and the dot on level 1 is perfect, not too bright with zero bloom. You can barely see the ghostly image of the Micro's body, it almost disappers.  The world has a new nightstalker!

I originally got it for a Primary Arms micro.  Believe it or not, it locks up tight and is going nowhere.  It has a dual locking system.  It does not have a mil-spec finish like Larue but it works for now.  My plans are to use the Weaver mount with the new generation Primary Arms micro dot that has the removable base and extended battery life for this rifle and the Larue micro mount for the H1 in the picture for my 5.56 M4.

I've put a few hundred rounds downrange with this mount and have had zero issues.  It keeps zero after being removed and reinstalled.  For the money it's decent.  I bought it from Midway with a bunch of other stuff when they had a nice discount code, they have it for $39.  Midwest Hunters Outlet has it for $29.  It's perfect for one of the chinese Micro knockoffs.  While I am a firm believer in buying quality if at all possible, I can't do it for all my rifles.  I have had good luck with a Primary Arms M3 knockoff and a 1st gen PA micro.

Well today I mounted the Super Extended Swan Sleeve rail I bought to be able to move my EOTech forward and make room for the AimPoint twist mount adapter.  Turns out that my flip up front sight is now too short to co-witness through the EOTech with both the Swan Sleeve integrated flip up rear sight and my GG&G flip up.  So I guess this will go back up for sale and I'll start looking for another option.

I kinda like that Troy TRX Extreme or maybe the Yankee Hill Customizable free float tube.  Any other suggestions?  Basically I need a handguard that has the same height rail as the stock one.

Sorry that didn't work out for you..Hows the quality of the rail?

I know it isn't a popular brand around here,  but it seems like a good idea. I may still pick one up to do a removable "night rail" to keep my EOtech and PAQ4 easily removable as a unit. The GGG optics rail looks nice..

Quality is very good. As nice as anything else I've seen. This one is the super long (14") with the flip up rear sight.

Now I'm looking at the Troy Extreme floating HG to give me what I need.

I have a similar setup and have been thinking about getting the magnifier, I think it would perform nicely with da torch.
Would this fit straight up: USGI

IWill I need an adapter and if so, is this the right one for D300: Adapter

I really would like to order my stuff from TNVC but those items don't specifically say they are for D300.
