I'm posting this for a friend who doesn't have internet access.

He has 1 AR and has found a new Century Arms 17" FAL with 2-20 rounds mags and 1-30 round mag for $550. Has anyone bought or shot one? Opinions?

Can't speak from personal experience, as I don't have one.  Internet stories say some shoot great, others need some degree of work.  Still others need to go back to Century for replacement.

Pricewise, the 30-rounder is probably a $50 deal, assuming it's from FN or another equivalent European contractor.  Forget it if its from USA Mags or similar.  The 20's can be gotten all day in great shape for $5 or so.

If your friend saves up another $250 or so, he's easily into a DS Arms STG-58; which is the road I'd take.

Yeah I like the DSAs myself and am planning to buy a 16" carbine with some of my tax refund, but he wants something for around $600. The 30 round mag, I believe, was Austrian military surplus.
