I'm about to send in my first order for a Garand, but I have a question on the order sheet. They request a copy of .mil ID for some of the requirements, but it is illegal to make a copy of my CAC and send it in. How do .mil folks fulfill that requirement? Or should I just use alternate forms of ID for the requirements?

Quoted: Thanks. Quoted: Quoted: ERB or current month LES Thanks. No problem. I did that the last time I sent in an order for Garands and they had no issues accepting it...granted that was back when Orest was still working there so IDK if things have changed, but if they have an issue with it they should contact you. |

Order is in. I went with the Field Grade option, so we'll see what I get. I was going to request a WWII receiver but rushed a little and forgot to note it on the form I've wanted a Garand for years so I'm pretty excited to finally go through the process - it's definitely not as hard as some make it out to be. |

Congrats.... The suspense is the best part. I love ordering from CMP and have always had a good experience |
Good luck on your first order. I always want to go FG to save a few bucks but with my luck it's best to just pay up and ensure a Service Grade. The goofy part is the one FG (IHC) I did receive was in better shape than the SG's in terms of fit/finish, the barrel's readings were just a little lower than all of the SG's I have received. Of course, I've decided to turn that one loose as it was purchased in hopes of "correcting" a different IHC I have and instead was a LEAD rebuild. Nice rifle, just wasn't what I was hoping for in the end. At least with the CMP, if you receive something you're not elated with you can always turn around and sell it to get your money back out of it. I sent in a SG order 2 weeks ago (a week after sending in a Carbine order) and haven't heard anything on either order. They're likely still playing catch up from the Carbine ordeal which I assume I'll have missed, thus the M1 Garand order to take its place. I think they're also a bit behind on Garand orders, too, and the FG lead time has been changed to 30-60 days on the order page...some grumbles over at CMP Forums suggest the SG's lead time should also be changed. No bother to me, I'm not in a rush and just taking another stab at them sending me an H&R again. Here's to my next Springfield I'll be flipping.
Good luck. Hope you receive a nice one for your first. |
I was going to attempt a Carbine for my first order, but didn't get off my lazy ass in time Hoping the whole rush didn't push lead times back too much.
I thought about an SG, but I didn't want new wood. I like a stock with some character, as long as it's solid. |

Probably jinx myself and get the spanking new CMP cartouche this go. CMP is behind because they're behind on inventory to send out. Pickings are getting slimmer every day. |

I thought I saw that most SG were coming with new wood. Oh well. I am trying to save up for another Garand before summer so maybe that will be an SG. All this talk of CMP finaly getting down to the bottom of the barrel (and sounding real this time) has me moving the Garands to the top of the short list. Is the CMP still the best place to get M2 Ball as well? I'll need clips and a sling also. And a bayonet. |
