Being late to the C&R game and all, I have decided that I can no longer live without a Garand.  My ne 03 FFL is hot off the presses.

I live not too far from the CMP North Store.  I wanted to drive down and make a mornign of it, and pick up a boatload of ammo while there.  Besides, I'd much rather buy in person, that send off through the mail and wait 90-120 days.

I understand that as of today there are only 10 Garand FGs 40 Garand RGs left on hand at the North Store.  Does this even justify the trip, or should I wait until some of the Greek returns get processed through Anniston and shipped up ?

I'm so confused....had my hear set on a service grade, maybe a new stcok, and a metrci shit ton of ammo.

What should I do?  Mail and wait / roll the dice?  Then I still got to make a trip for ammo.

Have patience grasshopper...more are coming.

What say you?

Thx.

whatever you do, just make sure you have all the necessary things like membership to a CMP affiliated club and all that. Nothing is more frustrating than running back and forth when you are trying to order.

A buddy of mine just went to the cmp south store last week, he said that in order to get a garand, he had to join the garand collectors association on the spot, and he said he needed his passport.  He said a birth certificate will do as you need proof of US citizenship.

So take your C&R license (I don't think you'll need it), your birth certificate, a photo ID and be prepared to join the Garand Collectors Association on the spot.

Would you still have to join the GCA if you're already a member of an affiliated club?  That wouldn't make sense.  MJD

I've got Uncle Sam's walking papers (DD214) and I think my VFW membership is still current, although I have no idea what I might have done with that membership card.  Is the DD214 enough to satisfy the club requirements, or just the firearm related activity requirements?

Birth certificate, CCW, DL, 03FFL, etc.....are no problem.

Go to www.odcmp.com and check the link that says "Eligibility Requirements" and read it thoroughly.  The DD214 may be acceptable, but I can't say for certain.  MJD

That's the same shade of gray I came away with after reading it.

Clear as mud.

If you don't have your club association when you show up, I believe they will let you join the Garand Collector's Association on the spot.

I've never been to either the north or the south store, but if I had a chance to go I certainly would.  Since you're new to the game you may not know what to look for, but the chance to fondle that many service rifles cannot be passed up.

See that's the thing...I don't know if I do or don't ?!

In addition to shooting clubs, the CMP also has several special affiliates.  Membership in these organizations satisfies our requirement for purchase.  These special affiliates include: Congressionally chartered veterans' organizations such as the VFW, AL, DAV, MCL, etc. U.S. Military services (active or reserves), National Guard, to include retirees.  Professional 501(c)3 law enforcement organizations and associations such as the FOP, NAPO, NSA, etc.

Does my DD214 and / or DoD Geneva Conventions Identity Card satisfy that club membership requirement???

SevenMaryThree, you can call them on the pone to be certain about qualification docs. The C&R FFL is one good thing to have. A CCL is also good.

If I were you, I would just go for the hell of it. Too far for me, but I would love to go there and have the chance to eyeball everything in person.

How far of a trip is it?

Oh not far at all...I'm in SE Michigan.   A couple hours drive through friendly country.

I'm gonna head down on Thursday.

As I recall, I used my C&R to fill the shooting requirement, and used my birth cert, their form signed and notarized, and a copy of my DL (I think), and copies of my GCA card for the other requirments
