I'm looking at one. How is the quality?

I have a Cobb. I would say that the quality is on par with many of the others that took the "Military" approach as in it started out as  a very big AR style rifle without the gas system. It is a fairly simple, yet very effective approach. The finish is good. the parts all fit together well. To this day the customer support offered by Skip, the owner of Cobb Mfg., is great. He continues to stand behind his products, even after the Bushmaster buy out.

The only negative thing I could say is that the BA50 is a little picky about the magazines. If they are off, as in a little wide allowing the rounds to float around from side to side, it will have some feed issues. If the mags are tight, never a problem.

I have a COBB branded BA50T and I love it.

My advice is to pick one up soon, before Bushmaster decides to ditch the Lothar Walther barrels for a cheaper alternative to boost profits.

LW barrels are the tits!

To this day I still don't understand why Cobb didn't just go through with the DI gas system and make this a semi-auto.  Imagine, there would have finally been a semi-auto .50 with the accuracy of a top-notch AR-15 that could have competed with the M82A1.

Oh well maybe Bushmaster will pick up the ball and run with it.

Lord I hope not! I hate cleaning DI gas systems! Keep it a turn bolt.

Word I heard is that a semi was tested, but accuracy suffered and the idea was scrapped.

Accuracy was a paramount feature in COBB's design process.

It was not an accuracy issue it was a reliability issue.  He could not get it to work.  Hence - the FA.50.

The FA50 was a nice idea....  but the additional cost to save a fraction of a second on chambering a new round was the death of it.  It attempted to fill a void that didn't really exist.

The FA50 was short lived and is no longer in production.  Hasn't been for a while....  The BA50T replaced it completely.

The target was a semi-auto .50 and what we got was the BA50T.

Regardless of what the "target" may or may not have been...  I'm more than happy with the rifle that was born as a result of COBB's efforts.

The BA50T is a very capable rifle.

I continue to be impressed with mine.

No offence meant.  I am sure it is a great rifle.  I like bolt .50's.  I have an ArmaLite.  My point was he could never get the semi .50 to work and that is why it was never built.  Accuracy was never an issue.

None taken.

Accuracy may never have been an issue, but it was always a priority.
