What is the best finish for a heavy-use firearm besides SS? SS shines and doesn't count.
Opinions please.
Take a pick and tell me why.  I've got parkerized because it keeps oils, decreases friction wear, and just looks cool (CDI)!!!

Right now the Np3 finish from Robar seems to be the end-all, be-all of finishes, IMO.

It's similiar to teflon w/o the wearing problem of teflon, IIRC. I've yet to see it so I can't comment on how it shines or doesn't.

A thin coat of flat epoxy paint over new, thoroughly degreased Parkerizing is very hard to beat, and inexpensive.
For that matter, a similar coat of epoxy paint over bead-blasted stainless is excellent as well.
Some of the newer, proprietary finishes are truly excellent.  That said, there are very good, much less expensive alternatives.

I've had excellent results with Mac's so far and his prices are very reasonable.

Spray-on bake-on coatings work well for corrosion resistance but when it comes to abrasion resistance hard chrome is by far the best. I have guns that were chromed 20+ years ago and both show little sings of wear. If you don't mind a "white" pistol hard chrome is the best finish, IMO.

 Chrome...

Anyone here listen to country music?

Sounds good though except for the cost.

I'm pretty fond of a couple coats of Krylon over whatever the factory uses.
