After having the safety on, inserting a cartridge into the feed slot, pushing the bolt forward and downward, then placing the safety in "fire" position and I'm ready to fire...question.. for whatever reason I need to now eject this chambered cartridge. How do I do it?

Go ahead and work the bolt. It will be fine to extract the round while in the "fire" position.

The cock on opening is a bear sometimes. The firing spring is pretty heavy, so a little "Oomph" is needed.
