I have an older Vista 20p 2.5 versions.  I'm interested in getting a cell phone type connection since I cancelled my home phone.
I was wondering if anyone could advise me on a what part I would need?

I contacted my original alarm installer and he said he could do the install and part for $195.00.  I'm not sure if that is a decent price.

Thanks

Start by looking here

I am sure the tech support will let you know if you ask about compatibility issues.

ETA: After posting I reread your post and I am not sure I answered correctly, are you trying to do some kind of GSM cellular central station monitoring or have the system call you (self monitor).

Sorry for the delayed response.  I saw the board you linked but I wasn't for sure if that would work for my unit.  My alarm is monitored now so I would need a unit that would call my monitoring service.

The link was for an Envisalink which calls your Smartphone, (no monthly fee)

For Central Station I would do a Google search for,

honeywell gsm cellular communicator

or

honeywell vista 20P gsm cellular communicator

The price quoted in your first post does not seem out of line or you can DIY with the associated configuration headaches.

Radios usually cost between $150 & 225 for the part + a few extra dollars per month for monitoring (depending on the central station policy - the central station I uses charges more, but others don't care & it's the same price).
The problem with buying that part yourself (whether it is a Starlink, DSC-GSM, NearNet, etc) is that someone has to activate it - so if your monitoring is through him then you probably have to go him to get it online anyway - for $195 I would let him do it.
The Envisalink mentioned is not a cellular radio, it reports via ethernet - if your cable is out it won't work.

Ok thanks for the info.  I talked to the installer again and he said that my monitoring fee will not be raised even though I'm going with a cell connection.  I've been a customer for 10 years so he said he was not going to raise the fee.  Overall I think it's a good price so I'm going to let him do it.
