ok First of all, I come in peace, not in anyway looking to make anyone mad of start a forum war!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Question is.......Why are the 10/22 Ruger rifles so popular?????? I have owned 3 of them, and seen a ton of them that my buddys have, and not 1 of them would shoot under a 2 inch group at 50 yards!
Like I said, no offence ment, Some people in these forums say they are so accurate, I have a CZ 452 Varmint, and a Anchutz 64mpr both in 22 lr that shoot way better than I can, I know the Annie is a high end rifle, but if you count up all the bucks spent to make a 10/22 accurate, then It dont seem to expencive.
I was just wondering what the craze is.

speaking for just myself, it has a pverall very sleek efficient slimline easy to carry look and feel about it; and as a semi auto, there is something inexplicable to me, about that non protruding flush fit mag; not in the way, doesn't hang up on things, it is hard to explain, but somehow, much of what i like about it, is it's overall aesthetic, and that damn flush fit mag!!!

I put a total of about $450-$500 into my 10/22, and that's including the cost of the base rifle. It shoots .3 inch holes at 50 yards.

A little knowledge can go a long way.

It doesn't require money to make it shoot... Just some elbow grease.

Many people who own the 10/22 choose to use them for BR and end up going mad and spending a fortune on them. (1k~)

Everyone wants to buy the latest laser, scope, grip, etc to improve their non-existent shooting ability, rather than practice. Plus many people assume that you need to spend big bucks on them to get them to shoot, and before they even send any lead down range they have already swapped barrels, trigger groups, stocks, etc.

Had they taken the time to understand that they can get nice groups with all factory parts, they might not look so foolish.

Not meaning to step on any toes here, just voicing my opinion. Yes, I know that every little bit helps when it comes to competition, but too many people are under the impression that you MUST change out everything for it to even hit the paper...

The only parts were an $80 barrel and a $5 buffer pin, with everything else I just reworked the factory parts.

50 yard groups.

did you have to do something to the stock for that barrel to fit?

Shortened the fore-end and opened up the barrel channel on the original carbine stock.

My 1st 10/22 shot 1/2 to 3/4" 5 shot groups with cheap Rem ammo all day long, before I ever did a thing to it.   I've never seen a 10/22 that didn't shoot great with some kind of ammo.

Now that it has a GM barrel and Hogue stock, it will shoot better.  My Marlin Md60 was never accurate with any ammo.   My newest 10/22 is about the same as my 1st.

I have several bolt action .22s, all of which shoot nice tight groups at 50yrds, but nothing substantially better than the 10/22.

The 10/22s that I've shot all performed well.  My friends and family members 10/22s all do the same.   You must have bad luck, or need to practice better shooting .

Handy, reliable little carbine just the way it is. You don't need to spend money on it at all.

Most people can't shoot any gun under 2" at 50 yards.

1) not a tube magazine
2) cheap to get
3) semiauto
4) more options available for it than any other 22lr.

I'm sure the first two reasons are the main ones that let the 10-22 get a foothold and led to #4, but nowadays reason #4 probably drives the purchasing.

Most unmodified 10-22's are plinking guns, not really geared towards uber-accuracy. With some parts and some tinkering, you can go there though.

10/22's are great and I own 2, but I have a soft spot for my marlin 60.22 years, thousands of rounds fired, one firing pin and it still functions and is just as accurate(which is very good) as new.Best thing about it,cost 60 bucks
