I see hesse is at it again, making clones of both. I found out about it on the FALFiles, I'm at work and I can't post the link now but it is an active topic. I have two BIG questions.WHere is he getting the 7.62 parts kits from? Why is there  not any other source for the 7.62 kits and 7.62 recievers?

Hesse may be making the parts and receiver himself.  He was at a gun show in April selling his (at the time) newest creation, an MP-5.  He said that he makes all of the parts, and that none of the original HK parts are interchangeable with the parts on his guns.

Might be what he is doing with the Galils.

Yikes, a clone that doen't interchange ANY parts with the clonee?

Spooky.

Theyre not clones really, more like a bastardized AK made to look more like a Galil.

That's the only thing Hesse makes that I know if that looks even close to a Galil.

Let me know if you're talking about something else.

Hesse "Hegal"

Parts are supposed to interchange. I think I'd rather keep my home-built kit Galil. The prices on the accessories - scope mounts and mag adapters, are interesting though.

Is this Hesse Firearms in MN? ie. Robert Hesse?
What shows is he selling at, will he be at Knob Creek?

Adman:  Bob Hesse in MN.  He is at every MWCA gun show in Minnesota.  The next one is August 17 and 18 at Touchstone Energy Place at River Centre.

Citadel:  Yup, that is what he said.  I was thinking the same thing.  Being able to change over to HK parts when you can afford it would have been a nice option.

Hesse MP5 is made of almost all HK parts. He makes about 10 parts but the rest are HK. They are 100% interchangeable, as are the Galils. I got this information from the man himself.

Hesse Hegal rifle (dealer)- $929

AR15/M16 mag adaptor- $90

Can anyone confirm if hesse is making the parts themselves or importing them? I heard about the 5.56 kits being imported from South America but I have not heard anything about 7.62 since Springfield.

Maybe things have changed since April when he said otherwise.  I don't know.

I wonder why SpringField can't do this? They used to import them....I know...I know...about cost and such but if hesse can do this then why can't a bigger company with a good reputation can't do it? I mean think of it...a U.S. made Galil! I know it would sell like hot cakes!

They only imported 8 pre-ban 5.56mm Galils

Regardless of how many they imported, they used to sell them and they could make it.I know such a giant manufacturer like them has more money than small shoddy company that is cloning some of the classic rifles. If hesse can do it, then why can't someone else?I know there is a market for it.

I'd like to have just the rear reciever cover mount from the AK-47 "super" that has the rear peep sight. How bad could Hesse screw up a reciever cover for an AK?

All I can say is DAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMM! Those Galil's look super sweet! The AK's with the longer sight radius look cool even! I want one, but its a Hesse, I have to fight the urge to buy one. Is this going to be their next problem prone rifle? Its a shame, they really look good. But I'd never pay that price. Not with their reputation.

The MP-5's that Hesse was selling at a gunshow in April were going for $1100.  They had the fixed stock (looks like the A1 or A2 on AR-15's).  To get around the 16" barrel length, he put a fake (non-functioning) supressor on it.  It looks like an MP-5SD.  The receiver had the same finish as the CETME / HK91 receivers he builds.  To my untrained eyes, they looked the same.  I believe he was selling them with a 30 rd. magazine.  I can't remember if it had a sling or not.  They looked pretty sharp, but I don't know how they function, or how reliable they are.

Old Sacramento Armory has IMI Galil receivers for $229, but they may be running low. There are completely new Galil parts kits available from www.uzigalil.com for about $900. FAC, Southern Ohio Guns, JLD, Keystone Arms and others have the used kits for around $500. I got one from JLD and am very happy. The finish was almost completely gone, but everything was there and in good structural shape.

If you get a receiver and kit, you will probably need a new barrel, as the gas port needs to be drilled after headspacing. A few months ago, you could get barrels for $30-50 each, but I think the supply of cheap ones has dried up. Expect to pay about $150 for a new one now.

Five parts need to be replaced with US parts. AK trigger sets will work with slight Dremeling. AR15 brakes will work if they are re-tapped to 13x1 mm, and US made Galil pistol grips are available from Ace Ltd.

CDNN has fixed wooden stocks, or the folding stock can be sleeved and pinned/welded.

Here's a picture of my completed (non-refinished) Galil:
