Thinking about having my AUG A3 re-threaded from 13x1LH to 1/2x28RH, and having it cut back a bit to get close to the thread length used by AR's.  I sent out a bunch of emails over the last couple days and haven't gotten a response yet, so I thought I'd ask here:

Is there enough meat on the bbl to accommodate the re-threading?  If so, I'd probably have ADCO do it, since they are close.  I'd also have them re-contour the bbl behind the gas block down to lightweight profile to knock down some weight.

Watch your barrel length in Michigan.  I know we have to purchase these AUG/MSAR rifles with a pistol permit but im not sure we can go below 16 inch barrel length, unless you perm attach a flash hider.

Sounds like you've got it pretty well figured out. ADCO would be the one to do it and I think they could. Someone just sent in an ACR barrel to have ADCO reprofile it and is reporting on it over at the Bushmaster Industry Forum.

Right.  That's not just Michigan, taking a rifle bbl down under 16" anywhere is an SBR w/o a permanently attached device.

The AUG bbl is just under 16.5" long.  I'm thinking that removing 0.40" would keep it legal and bring the thread length down to where it would be compatible with everything out there.  13mm = 0.51181102", so depending on the thread depth required, and the skill of the machinist, it should be enough.

It's right at 16.5".

Steve @ ADCO said they could do it.  It's stripped down, boxed up, and on the way tomorrow.
