I can pick up a Black unit for $1,250 or a Tan for $1,350
Is the tan really worth the extra $100? How about resale value? I know people like their Tan color for some reason. |

FWIW I went with tan...
Then again it went on a tan rifle so. Tans been the hot flavor for awhile now. Nothing wrong with the black unit. Id go with which ever you personally like. Is tan worth $100 more to you? I personally wont be unloading my Peq15c. I love the thing. |
| Get the tan. If you want to sell it later, a cloner will buy it over a black. Plus you'll kick yourself later if you think you want the tan know and end up getting the black. Also in the scheme of things, you are spending $1200 on a IR laser. Whats an extra $100? |

"Looks just like the real peq15" is half of the functionality/advantage of the civ model, some of the LDI lineup realistically offer superior performance across the board. Metal vs plastic, QD mount vs thumb screw, cost less, I could go on. If you're set on the Atpial-C get the tan one, if you arent gonna get the tan one to save a hundred bucks just get one of the LDI offerings and get more for the same price. |

You get a metallic housing, a focussable IR illuminator and you get a throw lever return to zero QD mount as well as all of the main features on the ATPIAL. They also have a non-slaved lasers version of the I2 with just an IR laser and just an IR illuminator for like $800 which is a pretty good deal too. |

Sadly, if resale potential is a consideration... the extra $100 investment may very well be worth it.
That being said, if you paint it, it will likely be moot. Were I in your shoes, though, I'd save the $100, and paint the thing, though! Re: the ATPIAL-C versus the DBAL-A3 - The DBAL-A3 certainly does have a lot of attractive features that the ATPIAL-C does not, that arguably make it a better unit when comparing Class I laser to other Class I lasers, but to be honest, I'm not convinced that being made of metal is one of them. Besides the "form factor" of sitting higher, etc. I'm not really convinced that metal construction equates to more durability between the two. On the one hand, there's a precedent for polymer parts being more durable in some applications, because it is able to "flex" more before breaking, denting, or permanently deforming -- the muzzle end of a rifle is a high risk area for taking impacts, the fact that the DBAL sits higher off the rail increases the chances of being damaged by an impact. On the other hand, it's essentially a box full of electronics sitting very close to, sometimes right on top of the gas block -- all other things being equal, the metal body is going to retain more heat. How much does this matter? Probably not that much to most people, but to some, it could matter a good bit, and remember, we're talking about items we've all spent our own money on here--even if it would be covered by warranty, it's still a frustrating, irritating hassle to have to deal with. I'm not trying to convince anyone that one unit is better than the other, but I see "it's made of metal" frequently being cited as a reason that the DBAL-A3 is better than the ATPIAL-C, but I'm not totally convinced that it's a tick in the column for "better," it's just a different material. ~Augee |

Honestly I don't see any reason for you to go with tan other than resale value like Augee mentioned. (Cloners will jump on FDE before black even tho both bodies are in military use) I like the look of both equally, and they both perform the same. If you plan on keeping it, just snag the black one. Hell, if I was to pick up a second unit and had the choice, I'd probably snag black just for the "not seen as much" factor. |
