I want to hear what the tribe out there thinks about a couple rip-off AK's.  The Isreali Galil and the South African R4/R5/R6 and CR21.

Some nice reaction guys!  But it does not sounds like you-all really knows the South African R4/5/6 and CR21.  All the things that you ever felt was wrong with the AK and the Galil has be modified on the SA version, that is my opinion.  I carried the R4 for a very long time and fire in the tens of thousands of rounds and never had a stopage due the weapon.  The only I ever had was due to ammo, but that was ONLY one.  I presented training on the weapon and it can take alot of abuse and still work.  Due to its weight it makes it a very stable platform to shoot from and even more if you use the integrated bipod.  So long for now!hippie.gif

I wouldn't exactly call'em rip-offs.........then again, with the price you'd have to pay for one these days....

But Galils are pretty rare around here. I missed two chances to buy Galils at a good price and I am still kicking myself.

One was a .308 ARM Galil in 1996 for $1,700. I bought a HK91A2 instead for $1,695.

The next was a .223 ARM in 1999 for $1,900. Passed on the Galil to buy a Steyr AUG.

The only Vektor I have ever seen was the .223 pump action Galil.

I think the Galil/R4 are very interesting weapons. Very rugged and simple....like a AK should be.

I would like to see more of these "rip-offs" for sale in the U.S. for a much more realistic price. Looks like ORF is doing a good job on a Galil .223 clone....I would like to see one in .308.

Galil's are great weapons, but they are heavy. I can't see the point of a Galil in 7.62 NATO. High capacity magazines don't exist, and they cost a premium and there are better "battle rifles" for this caliber. The Galil is reliable, durable and accurate. Its a bastard of the M16/AK/Stoner 63
*look at a Stoner 63 30 round magazine and it will be obvious were the Galil mag came from*
Unfortunatly, good Galils or expensive or difficult to find. I have heard some negative things about the ones from Ohio Rapid fire. Vulcan makes the entire Galil line, which is awesome...except that its made by Vulcan. Theier reputation is deplorable, one of the worst in the idustry. I wouldn't buy a magazine from them, let alone a 1700.00 Galil. I came withint a breath of buying a Galil ARM from Denny in KC, but balked at the 1500.00 price tag for a 5.56. I have other guns I "need"

before I can devote that kind of money to a 5.56 AK. I believe it was made by Ohio Rapid Fire, which has been hit and miss with thier Galils, but I was able to inspect it and it was clean. Plus, Denny's is an amazing outfit, and I was assured they would take care of me if there was an issue.
Even though Denny would have made it right,Im sure, I was hesitant to devote that much money to a rifle that may be full of gremlins. When I buy my Galil, I think I will locate a parts kit and have someone like Arizon Response build it for me. That way you know you are getting a weapon using the maximum amount of correct Galil/IMI parts and its being assembled by a reputable outfit. Not that ORF sucks, thier Galils just aren't quite there.... Galil's are amazing weapons which are being used all over the globe. 7.62 Galils are used widely in South America, not to mention 5.56 models

used in South Africa and Holland/Denmark. Israel, among others, have relegated the Galil to second line service and selected front line service. The Galil SAR is the most prevalent Galil besides the Hadar that the IDF uses. The SAR is issued to Artillery/armored crews and anyone else who appreciates the compact weapon. Galil magazines are used as opposed to Stanag magazines with adapters. The biggest downfal of the Galil is its weight, otherwise its one of the best 5.56 assault weapons. I wish they were more availible, they would make an excellent LE weapon.

One of our local SOTs has a Micro Galil in 5.56. That thing is wonderful. I'm unsure of how it groups, but it's super small and very controllable under burst and FA fire (it shoots about 700 rpm).

Was at ORF last week. They have two Galil clones, built on original IMI parts, don't know who made the receiver (didnt handle them or ask, I was picking up another gun). One is the ARM the other the AR. Price tag on either is $1750.00 IIRC. I bought a .308 Galil (original) when they first imported them. Wish I still had that one, if only for the increased value it would have today.
