1 in 7 twist - AR15.COM

Is a 1 in 7 twist undesirable? I have a friend that is telling me that unless I shoot "heavy" bullets I can shoot the rifling out of my barrel if I use standard 55 grain bullets.
Any ideas?

After nearly a thousand rounds through mine , no excessive wear noticed .

You'll burn out the barrel faster if you're doing heavy, extended rapid-fire or "bump-firing" (i.e., simulated full-auto). It shouldn't be much of a concern with semi-auto. But all barrels wear out eventually; the great thing about ARs is that it's very easy to replace them.

Your "friend" is full of BS. I have a 1 in 7 twist barrel & there's no problem at all with accuracy or wear.

I have a 1/7 twist and if I do my part I can hit the bull at 500 meters using military 55gr ball ammo.
