| I have a 11-87 and the bolt will not lock back with heavy or light loads. It will lock if you pull it back manually. I have replaced the o-ring and gas piston. Its clean and lubed properly. Any help would be appreciated. |

I am assuming you have not made any modifications to the gun (like chopping the barrel or installing a DMW EZ Loader) ? If this is a correct assumption, read on... First, confirm that the bolt is cycling back far enough to lock open. Place some masking tape over the charging handle slot, then fire a round (preferably a hot load) and see how far it cycles. Now, with the gun empty, pull the bolt back to the same position and see if it locks open. If it doesn't lock open (i.e. you have to pull the bolt further back than the gun cycles with hot ammo) then you have inadequate gas, or something is blocking the bolt from cycling (e.g. dirty receiver, faulty gas system, damaged mag tube, crud in the recoil spring tube etc.). If the gun locks open when manually pulled back to the same position, then take a look at how the carrier release assembly is functioning. If you cycle the gun slowly and carefully with dummy shells, you will see how the base of each shell, when released from the mag tube, hits on a couple of short fingers at the front of the trigger group. These in turn trip a sear that allows the bolt to fly forwards again. If the bolt is not locking back, it could be that the sear is set too light. IIRC, this is like a leaf spring that can be tweaked slightly to adjust engagement. You will have to remove the trigger group to access this part. Good luck - this is one of the more annoying issues with the 1187 series guns. However, in my experience, once fixed it seldom recurs. |
