Got a Smith-Corona 03-A3, 2 Groove Barrel stamped SC 3-43. Excellent condition serial number in the 4874XXX range, Excellent "S"  stock marked "FJA".

Belongs to a Older Veteran and he wants to know the value.

Anyone in the hive got an answer?

It can be worth from $450 to $650 or more, all depending on the condition, who wants it, and what part of the country you are in.

Well, He's in AL. The rifle is in"Excellent/Like New" Condition. The barrel and action are light gray parkerized color, no defects. Bolt is dark Black, I'd say 99%.

I think the previous poster is a bit low. My Remington 1903A3 from the CMP, all matching with original finish and low barrel wear cost $450 a year or two ago and was considered to be a steal. There is a Smith Corona on Gunbroker that has been arsenal refinished and is going for $705 with a few minutes left. I think the one you are talking about sounds like original finish and matching. If that is the case I expect $800-900 or so these days. It will vary some by region but not too much IMO.

My guess would be anywhere in the $700+ region

It all depends on how original and mint she is.  Are there any rebuild marks?  Is at all proper SC?  What is the MW/TE?  Let's just say she is a perfect/original example with a MW-0/TE-1, she would fetch over $1,100.  What the CMP sells or have sold rifles for has absolutely no bearing on what a rifle truely is worth to a collector.

Light gray or greenish gray? Are all the other parts parked or are some blued? What markings are on the bolt?  Is the band spring notch on the stock squared or rounded?

ETA Any rebuild stamps on the stock? Does the stock have pins or screws?

2 groove barrels were installed on rebuilt arsenal guns. I may be wrong, but I believe the gun above is one of those.
It's still a very desirable rifle but I don't believe it's in it's original condition.
They sure shoot well!

Sorry but negative.  Early production SC rifles had 6 and 4 groove barrels.  The decision to go to the 2 groove barrel was done by SC and Remington to expedite production numbers when it was determined after testing that the 2 groove barrel was just as accurate as the 4 groove barrel.  I'd like to see the barrel date and compare it to the serial number on the receiver.  I have a 100% original non-rearsenaled Remington M1903A3 #4015505 in NRA excellent codition barrel dated RA 9-43 and she has two grooves.  Matter of fact, guess what kind of barrel is found on most original M1903A4 sniper models?  Yep.........................it a 2 groove barrel!

Thanks for all the replies.

The barrel is stamped SC 8-43 (Correction from above as I stated 3-43.)
The serial number is48741XX range.

The more I research and study the more I want to buy it.

8-43 would be a early two groove SC barrel if it is really a two groove, most observed SC two grooves are 11-43.

If it is a all correct and original ( not arsenal rebuilt ) late SC with a SC two groove bbl ....$1000-1200 in todays market.

4.87mil is a very very very late SC, a 8-43 bbl is too early but not totally impossible..

I sold my Remington in that shape for $750, it sold in about 30 minutes. I guess I was a little low. I should have probably put a $950 tag on it. That was like 3-4 years ago I sold it.

It does depend on where you live. Some of the prices stated in this thread have been WAY too high. Some of them would tell me that the prices where I live are way too low. Guess I'm lucky. Again, depends on where you live. Also, without seeing pictures and more details, it's not really possible for anyone to say, for sure.

M1903's and A3's in my area start at $550 for one worth buying and go up from there FAST. A nice looking rifle that shows some honest wear might be priced $900 or so by the dealer and not last long on the shelf. Low number Springfields sit a little linger but not by much.
