Over the last few months I've gathered a ton of pictures of gun rooms from every gun board I can find. I'm looking for ideas and inspiration as I intend to build a dedicated gun room myself within the next couple of years, once I buy some land and settle down.

I did a post about eight months ago in the General Firearm Discussion forum with lots of pics, but since then I've found a bunch more so I decided to repost them here. All of these pics were openly posted on discussion forums by their owners, so I have saved them and reposted them from my own photoserver so as to not steal bandwidth. However, if you are the owner of one or more of these pictures and you object to me posting them here, please send me an IM and I will remove them immediately.

I will continue to post more pics throughout the night so as to keep the thread moving. If you have your own images you would like to submit, please feel free.

So, without further ado...

Much better!

Is this a private citizen's, or a museum, or?

To the best of my knowledge every picture I have is of a privately owned collection, except for the HK Gray Room pics I will post in a little while.

I like the hidden safe room

Any contractors or anybody built a room like that in a house, or do they just convert pre-existing stuff?

The first set look like some sort of museum, massive sprinkler system and I see it looks like a room within a bigger building..

The 3rd set is kickass!

I had mine done during construction.  Here is the thread on mine:

www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=642994

I don't have it all set up yet, though, since we don't move in for another month or so.

The biggest mistake I made when I built my house was not pouring a gun room when I did the basement.  It is pretty common and not much extra expense to form the front porch with the basement and have an entry from the basement to the space under the porch.  I would guess that is what the picture behind the dartboard is, judging by the size of the room.  I didn't do this because I was worried about the concrete sweating from the roof of the gun room, since it would be exposed to the cold weather.  It looks like the dartboard guy probably insulated the ceiling.  I actually know a guy that extended his basement under his garage.  He has a gun room the size of his two car garage with a vault door entrance from the basement.  THAT is what I wish I had done

57Strat, thanks for posting.  I've always wanted to see your whole collection, because I could tell you had a lot of terrific weapons from various single pics you have posted.

There is a trick to this - When the forms are being placed to pour the concrete for the roof of the vault (porch) set the forms/plywood 2-5 inches low, and then lay down a layer or two of the pink styrofoam, with galvanized lag bolts and fender washers pushed through the foam sticking up - Once the concrete cures and the forms are removed, the foam insulation will act as a thermal break and keep the ceiling from sweating in cold climates.

The hinges on the secret door with the dartboard totally give it away. Otherwise, its a brilliant idea.

The bottom four pics I believe are from a private collection and kept in a commercial building, perhaps a museum in Washington State.  I have been told that some of the guns came from Dolph Goldsmith when he sold most of his collection.
