14-20 is small enough to not jam up in a ,223/5.56 case. But it will stick in the flash hole if the primer is out.
20-40 will pass through the flash hole but is less aggressive than 14-20 and takes longer to clean. I use 14-20 walnut to clean fired cases with the primer still in. Then I use 20-40 corn cob to tumble case lube off after sizing and depriming. |

I use Zilla Lizard Litter Desert Blend. It is a finer walnut media that is small enough to fall through the flash holes on the cases, no more digging media our of the cases. I added a few thousand 6mm plastic airsoft BB's to the mix as well. This works really, realy well without the need for any type of additives or polish.
I have done thousands of cases now using this method. What started it was when i didn't have enough media and needed something to fill the space in the tumbler. My wife used the plastic BB's in her rock tumblers so I thought I would try the same thing in my tumbler and it has worked fantastically. If you need to clean really raunchy brass faster...use walnut, otherwise I think corncob cleans and polishes everything else, and even polishes the raunchy stuff you just cleaned with walnut. When using corn cob, I mean it + Dillon Polish or equal. I will have to try adding the plastic BB's...small price for the experiment...and you all say it works...that's good enough reason to try it. |

I really have no set number of BB's. If I had to guess I would say a few thousand BB's to probably 2 pounds of media.
Like I said in the thread before it seems to work as well as media with additives yet I use no additives. I will use it for the rest of my life now based on what I am seeing. Nothing seems to wear out or cause problems. The only thing you need to take care of is making sure your caliber isn't a caliber where the BB's can get stuck. The BB's are 6mm so I would guess anythign close to it you probably can't use them They may go in but getting them out with the media will probably be a pain in the ass. Dolomite |

I'm interested in the airsoft BBs myself. However, I am cleaning 1,000+ pieces of .223 brass at a time in a small cement mixer. I am using around 20 pounds of the 20/40 (I think) corn cob media. I am afraid adding BBs to my mix would be cost prohibitive as I would need quite a bit.
