Question for those with more expertise:
I'm on somewhat of a budget, and looking for a good carbine setup.  Is there a drawback to running a dual vis/IR unit plus a Surefire Vampire compared to a V-cell laser/illuminator unit?
The lasers-only unit runs about $850, and a vampire is $400ish.  The laser/illuminator runs $1800-2k.
Is there a huge advantage to one unit for everything?

Looking at the DesignatIR at Arisaka's site, it seems the vampire head and V-cell illuminator are about the same mw rating.  If I went with the laser/light combo, I'd probably run it off the modlite dual pad to get both with one button press.

Run an affordable excellent white light (ie: malkoff) and a Vulcan Bravo
https://www.3eir.com/product/vulcan-ir-v-bravo-black/
That gives you a great white, great illuminator, and IR laser for probably <1k.

To answer your question I actually have an IR laser-illuminator along with an M600v head on a CTF-2 body (which has the switches and IR aiming laser).  The laser illuminator gives me long-range tight illumination and the M600v head can give me short-mid range wide angle CQB illumination or a short-mid range white light.  I find a useful setup.

So the vampire has alot of flood. Too much imo. I don't like it when rhe light splashes the supressor/rail, and the ground 4 feet in front of me.

The vcel/ phosphor heads will go for miles. Nice tight circle with minimal flood. I have an IR surefire head from a company called z-bolt. It is a stronger illuminator than any of the civ model lam units I've used. About $350.

Head can be twisted and focused. I may have one for sale honestly. If I can find it.

@Millennial that Vulcan is an ir illlum & laser all based on a 1 cell SF body?  That’s about the perfect setup for my day rifle.

Is the Bravo actually available for purchase now? I remember the website going live, but it appears I still can't actually buy it from their webstore. I have an old M600 body and tailcap begging for one of these, but they don't appear to want to take my money

Is that the focusable Z-bolt IR illuminator?  That’s a nice beam.

My OG Vulcan (illuminator only) works with pretty much any battery combo;  3v/4.2v/6v.  You’ll want to confirm the Bravo & Delta are the same though.
