I am going to turn my Colt A2 into a flat top. An original Colt upper is $225 and I see varying "off brand" uppers ranging from $80 to $135. Are they all the same? And is a M4A3 upper synonymous with the term flat top. Thanks, 2200v

If you want to keep it "all Colt" you should go with the Colt upper A3 receiver. In my experience, Colt seems to hold value better though the workmanship seems less that it used to be and finish detail on my last few Colts has easily been surpassed by Bushmaster, Armalite, and Rock River Arms receivers. If your configuration is a real shooter that sees medium to hard use, Bushmaster would be my choice with Armalite second. (Just my .02) The M4A3 is a "flat-top", any of the A3 designations will be flat-top models. Hope this helps!

I understand the Colt receivers have a different size of takedown pins than the other brands, so you will probably need to use a Colt upper receiver.
