i have a new sf m500on my m4, my buddy gave me a rail that mounts with screws under the handguard, so you can put a vert grip.  will this rail work with the sf 500?

Yes, it should fit but use of the light will be significantly harder unless you have the v. grip all the way at the rear so you can just throw your hand up on the forearm.
