this may have been covered before but im having trouble searching it.... i have a bushmaster a2 and want to convert it to an a3 (for detach carrying handle) without buying a new upper assembly. if i just buy an upper receiver and swap it out will it work. some one told me it wouldn't because an a2 front sight post is higher than an a3 front sight post. if i cant i can bite the bullet and just buy a new upper assembly....but if it can be done, give me some advise. |

you will need and a Flattop upper (non M4 type) and maybe a .040 taller front sight. When you buy the upper just order the .040 taller front sight. If not it will suck when shipping is more than the part. edit the A1 and A2 FSB is .040 shorter than the Mil M4. They could of done this so they only have to stock one front sight post. |

A M4 flat top will have ramps in the upper reciver to line up with an M4 barrel extension. Being that you have a bushmaster it will use a std barrel extension. there a whole mess of vendors to buy from listed in the on the top. I would buy from one that has both the .040 and flat top upper reciver in stock. Now if you want to save a few more pennies you can get a stripper flat top and just move the FA and dust cover over to your new stripper flattop upper. Ar15barrels had a pic posted a few days ago in this section showing the differences. pic shows the diff. compare the pics in the first post to what you have and buy the right upper. |
