The rear sight needing to be maxed out to one side to zero the rifle just means that the barrel was not correctly indexed in the upper during the barrel installation. You need to pull the barrel, and reinstall it in the upper. When the barrel is installed correctly indexed (front sight tower), the bore line and the sights line will have the same viewpoint (currently, the front sight tower is canted to the left of the bore line) As for the front post, this could due to the sights not being correctly matched (height of the post, rear sight type, or front sight tower height). Since the front post is too long for the application/combo, it can be shorted to the needed length (read break out a file and cold bluing to touch up the tip when done). Also to add, the rifle should be zeroed for 100 yards. On some rigs that I use for shorter ranges, I just set the rear dial to around 400 after 100 yard zeroing it to allow the sight line to view/POA the shorter distance. |
