What chemicals/cleaning process could safely be used to degrease a lower to get rid of "cat urine" and it's smell?

I'm thinking Dawn dish soap but don't want to ruin the anodizing.

white vinegar is a good deodorizer but then you have to put up with the vinegar smell.

vinegar smells better then cat piss though.

I would try a baking soda solution.  Should neutralize the acidity of the piss, and absorb the odor.

This is what I would do:  Strip the lower COMPLETELY.  Clean the receiver and bits with a baking soda solution.  1-2 tsp in a quart of warm water.  Rinse with HOT water then displace the water with WD-40 or brake cleaner.  Then oil all the bits and re-assemble.

Note:  I haven't tried this, I'm merely thinking out loud.

will the vinegar harm the aluminum?

It should not, vinegar is a very mild acid.

May I be so bold as to ask just how the lower was available for the cat to piss on it?  Was it stashed in the litter box to hide it from the JBTs?

Mineral spirits followed by a CLP Breakfree bath and then Cat BBQ.

Why would the cat piss on your weapon?

bought it used and didn't notice it until today...

Not a big cat fan, so no offense intended. Personally, I would disassemble, degrease and clean the lower thoroughly. Then reassemble the lower, install a completed upper and then shoot the cat for pissing on my lower...

YMMV

it can only be removed with the lifeblood of said cat.  Scrub with a firm bristle toothbrush to get the blood splatter all over the place as a warning to all surviving cats.

Dishwasher .. No Joke .

All I remove is the buffer and spring , but they get washed in the same cycle in the silverware basket .
Works very well . When its done I either used compressed nitrogen or just leave it out in the sun to
dry completely . Then I soak it down with EEZox and let that dry for a day or two . The finishing step is a
buff with a piece of black cotton rag .

Be advised though that it will remove every spec of oil . It's not unusual for a black anodized finish
to come out dull grey , but I have never had one not return to black after being oiled .

Lick it clean? Cat piss is ammonia so maybe an ammonia neutralizer? Bleach would not be a good idea.

OK. So, how does one NOT NOTICE the smell of cat urine immediately?
