ORIGINALLY, OFFSET MOUNTS WERE DESIGNED TO GET THE AIMPOINT FURTHER FORWARD FOR USE WITH NIGHT VISION MONOCULARS MOUNTED COAXIAL AND AFT OF THE AIMPOINT. SOME FOLKS LIKED THE AIMPOINT OUT THERE, ANYWAY. HERE'S A PIC ABOUT THREE YEARS OLD:

I noticed everyone has a ARMS offset mount. Is it any better than the KAC one? Anyone have a price comparison?Isn't that ARMS one a two peice thing?

The ARMS Cantilever setup is cheaper than the KAC, but isn't better. Retail on the ARMS with the #22M68 and #22M68 EXT is $133. The KAC Cantilever (98512) is $196... C4 |

Holy crap!!!!Why is the KAC so expensive?Wow...how am i gonna pay for the sights...and the rifle?!I'll find a way.Oh,you said that it's cheaper,but not better.What did you mean by that?

The #22M68 from ARMS is very modular, so if you go to anther set up, just remove the catilever spacer and you have a lower ht. The ARMS throw lever attachment also has a built in buffer that won't allow the finsh to get worn off from opening and closing the lever. I hear that ARMS and KAC don't leave as much profit margine, so I assume a few dealers prefer to sell what has a larger mark up, but I too prefer the #22M68.  Jack |

I'm confused.So,they are about the same but the ARMS is cheaper and more modular.Right?Does the military use the ARMS offset mount?I've only seen the KAC being used.BTW,why do you prefer the ARMS?

This is VERY true! That is why most KAC and ARMS dealers have to sell everything at retail. Can you do something about the prices Jack??? 
This is not true (for me) anyway. Most dealers stock products such as ARMS and KAC even though its almost not worth their time because they both make quality gear.
I would say that the KAC Cantilever is more robust because it is one piece and not modular. The down side to that is you can't change its configuration. The Military uses both mounts and the Aimpoint QRP and the LaRue mount to name a few others. Jack prefers ARMS products over all others because he is friends with the owner!  Good Shootin, C4 |
