| I'm thinking I'll put a flattop upper on my cavarms lower/1:12 pencil barrel gun and go to a scope. I was thinking just skip the forward assist parts and leave it open. I can't think of any reason this wouldn't work safely –– am I missing something?? |

Forward assist was added to help with failure to seat issues on military stuff. with quality ammo, and proper cleaning it is a non-issue for most people. I have a friend that has a used and abused smoothy, never had a problem. if it isn't a SHTF stick should be just fine. Just my $.02

If you don't already have an upper, you could always get an upper without the FA. This one is from Rainier Arms http://www.rainierarms.com//img/shop/product/feebe8066fce32ed471ba3f522359b7c.jpg nice but kinda steep. probably get a cheaper one and leave the FA hole open or put a dummy plunger on it. |
