Okay, only pictures of both rifles together in this thread... that ought to keep the retro police at bay.
It's hard to tell in the pictures, but the early round forward assist is ground for A2 clearance. It has less metal removed than many of the transitional FA's I've seen, which leads me to believe either it's really transitional, or it's an A1 large round FA that was later armory-modified for A2 clearance. FN/Kaiser forge upper receiver, FN barrel. McKay lower. Neutered M16 selector. Stock from one of Apex's "well worn" A2 furniture sets.

Did you time the A1 flash hider with a vent or closing at top dead center?

I enjoyed owning a big pile of parts, but I'm finding that owning complete rifles is pretty nice too.

I didn't touch it, but it came from Colt's factory (or whatever armory rebuilt it last) with a closed space more toward the top. Not exactly centered mind you. I don't believe they ever concerned themselves with timing of the A1 hiders, just torqued it down on the lock washer and let it fall where it may.

A1 FH's weren't "timed" as they had slots all around, the A2 FH's have to be 'timed" as the bottom is closed to assist in muzzle climb & to help lessen dirt/dust flying up from a prone position from the gases coming out the bottom of the FH. Both rifles look great!, great job on them, what's next LOL?

727 carbine, but I'm waiting on a barrel to come back from ADCO before it will be done. Just sent it off yesterday. So maybe a week or two.

Nice sticks man. I just scored a super nice Colt gray A2 upper. I've had a gray McKay lower for a while. Got one of landmans FN barrels as well. Just need to get to building. Where did ya score the gray delta ring?
It grows on me more and more as I handle it. Also it was easily the least expensive of my builds.
That FN upper matches well with the McKay lower. I wonder how the FN and Colt A2 uppers match in color? I ended up using a black A2 lower with my Colt A2 upper because an XM gray A1 lower from NDS didn't match up well with the Colt upper.
Edit: Here is a picture of my Colt A2 upper

Nice rifles. I've always liked the A2, but I sold mine when I was out of work and unloaded most of my retro rifles. However, I just picked up a couple of the FN barrels that seem to be proliferating lately, so I guess a couple more A2's are in my future...

Great photos of some great looking rifles. Well done! I like the big head FA on the A2. It looks *right*.

I actually LIKE the way that two-tone came out. It gives it some "charachter". For some reason, to me, rifles look normal if the upper is the same color or lighter than the lower, but weird if the lower is lighter than the upper.
