why do marines and soldiers or whoever slap their magizines againt their hand or helmet before loading it into their rifle?

It makes sure that the rounds are seated against the rear of the magazine for optimal insertion and feeding.  Sometimes they shift around during movement.  If the top round has slid forward too far it could prevent the magazine from being inserted.

I slap each magazine before shooting a 'rapid fire' stage.
