It has the Ak muzzle break.  It's high pitched snap is damn loud.  can I get a y-comp or some other break that is toned down a bit put on it....or am I stuck with it?

Yes, I wear hearing protection. Unfortunately, there may be a time when I can't, and if I live through it, I'd like my left ear to still work.

1.  Yes, any decent gunsmith can remove and install a new *BRAKE*

2.  The Y-comp you refer to is MUCH louder than the AK *BRAKE*  Noise generated is often a by-product of a good working *BRAKE*.  If you get a quieter one, it probably wont stabilize the weapon as well under sustained fire, as the *BRAKE* was designed to in the first place.

3.  Firing a bare crown AR weapon without hearing protection will still damage your ears tremendously.

This is my Bushmaster Shorty AK that HAD the AK brake.

Kurt of KKF removed the AK brake, and permanently installed his A3 Tac Brake.
