I have a Colt ar that I bought during the ban in 2000, the barrel was not threaded and now I want to thread it. Problem is that the diameter of the barrel is much larger than the standard die I am wanting to use. Does this have to be lathed down, or what is recommended?

Have a gunsmith familiar with properly threading barrels do the work...you will be MUCH happier with the results.

Good question.  Ask these folks for advice:  ADCO, they'll know.

Another +1 for ADCO. Got mine back yesterday from being threaded. Beautiful job. 12 days from me mailing it to getting it back. Don't hesitate to use them!

As you've seen, most here recommend ADCO.
