Like a lot of posters...looking at S&W MOE 22, CMMG dedicated 22 upper, Spikes dedicated 22 Upper, and perhaps Umarex HK416 22. I'm a little confused on functionality vs standard AR...please tell me if I have this correct!

S&W MP15-22: All poly, much lighter than AR, requires dedicated mags BUT has last round bolt holdback, bolt catch paddle works just like AR, bolt stays back when mag removed = manual of arms just like AR

CMMG/Spikes Uppers: milspec weight/feel, can use a variety of mags, bolt catch paddle inop, needs BHOA to replicate bolt holdback and potential filing to bolt and mod to mags to replicate AR manual of arms (?)

HK416 22: Freakin expensive, all metal, bolt catch inop, dedicated mags, HK specific front/rear sights

Am I missing anything? I have a few ARs so this is more of a "still spend 3 hours at the range without wasting all my 5.56" option....

At the end of the day I cannot find ANY of the above in stock so it might not matter near term. Thanks all for your help!

I have the CMMG Upper and like it. The Bolt Hold Open with BHOA only works with CMMG mags. I use all Black Dog mags with mine.
I heard BHOA can work with Black Dog mags with a modification. Also, you can get the CMMG with a stainless bolt and carrier. It is the best way to go.

The M&P 15-22 feels and points like an AR-15. If you discount the weight difference it is the perfect 22LR trainer where your muscle memory stays correct during practice. I have two of them and they are very accurate and high quality.

I couldn't find an MOE version so I made one in FDE:
