I just purchased a 1VF AR from DSA. I have not picked it up yet as there is a four week wait.

I was wondering what you guys think about DSA AR's?

No one has any input?

Come on, lets here it.

Just like their FAL's: high priced and not chrome-lined.
Link Posted: 1/6/2005 6:06:17 PM EDT
Probably Lewis lowers.

Benefits of chrome lining are?

Benefits of chrome lining are?

1.Longer barrel life
2.Easier to clean
3.Next to no chance of bore corrosion

I just checked the specs on my in bound AR from DSA:

It has a 16", 1:9 twist chrome moly D4 barrel with A2 flashhider.
It also has a Mil-spec forged 7075T lower and a forged flatop upper.

ABNAk wrote that he thought they were not chrome lined barrels?
Is that not what chrome moly means?

50cal wrote that they are probably Lewis lowers?
Are thay mil-spec forged from 7075T?
Lewis lowers are good or bad?

I also lookerd at some of there FALs, they also offer chrome moly barrels on those, but only on limited models from what I could gather.

Thanks for the input so far.

imo, ALWAYS get chrome lining

No, chrome moly does not mean chrome lined.

That thinking is becoming archaic.  LMT as well as RRA are producing top quality weapons and RRA is not charging an arm and a leg for them like the ABC’s tend to.

I'm sure that you will be more than happy with your DSA AR.

Good company. Top quality FAL's.

I don't think that you have anything to worry about.

It will be a fine weapon backed by great customer service.

No, chrome molybdenum is the steel formulation.  Chrome lined means chrome lined.

Lewis lowers are good stuff from what I've read here, and they're supposed to be mil-spec, though I don't know what alloy they use.  Search for Lewis or LMT on the AR15 forums, and you'll find a lot of positive stuff.

I trust DSA as they are pretty much LMT's from what I have heard. Also, from what I know, they are the only company to sell a rifle with the MRP. If you don't know what the MRP is, click this link.
LMT MRP Goodness.

They're good enough to take 2d at the 2004 USPSA 3 Gun Nationals tactical class and 1st at the Colorado State/Point Blank Body Armor Police 3 Gun.

Olds442tyguy: that is one outstuckingfanding rifle!

When I get my in and decide what components to put on I will post a picture as well as my thoughts on it.

3gunr: I would submit that a shooter is more responsible for a score then a weapon, espically at that level of competition i.e. top 5 finishers.

One of my range buddies took the plunge in 2004 and purchased a DSA AR. After handling it and shooting it I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy one. The fit and finish is top shelf and it functions like a smoothly operating AR should.

RangerLink,

True enough, it's always the shooter,  but I would not be shooting my DSA AR if it did not work.  I've probably put more rounds thru a DSA AR than anybody and mine works great and has not let me down at a match (knock on wood um I mean plastic).  I've only had to replace the extractor springs and gas rings.

I can't speak of pretty finishes though since mine was all banged up within a week of getting it.

I picked up mine before the hoarding started, she's a nice rig, great shooter

I can't wait to pick mine up, I am really looking forward to it.

All of my M-16 experience is with the active duty army (7.5 years split between 10th Mountain Division (2-87 Infantry) and 1st Cavalry (2-7CAV)) and now the Texas Army National Guard. I have used the M-16A2, M-16A4 and the M-4. I have used PVS 14's, PVS-4's, PAQ-4C's, and Aimpoints with them. Once I started using an M-4, I have always wanted an M-4 like rifle and decided on the DSA.

I have to know decide on the vertical grip, light, laser, and the biggest decision between an EOTech or an Aimpoint.

I have had zero experience with the EOTech though.

too bad you cant get that beta to fit that M1carbine..... that would be fun to shoot.....
Link Posted: 1/13/2005 8:02:03 AM EDT
I have a DSA M4.  I am really happy with it.  I paid $945 I thought that was a fair price.  the fit and finish are great.  I wish I knew how to post a pic. I have a Surfire forearm on it with an Eotech it really kicks ass.

I'd take anything DSA makes, but I'd want a SS barrel since they don't do chrome lining. The quality is there, no doubt.
