It seems to be taboo to many, but putting an M4 stock on my 20" light weight was one of the best things I've done with a gun. I know some people think it's fugly, but I think it looks just fine. I have grown to hate fixed stocks and find the adjustables much more comfortable. There is no way that I can assume a proper shooting stance with a damn A1 or A2 stock.

The only thing that's "taboo" about that is that it's a Colt SP1 upper...

(if it's not, sorry for the mistake)

Old pic, but the rifle is still in the same configuration. I like it with the M16A2 upper.

That's what I'm talking about.

I don't like the look that much but that's a great configuration for sure.

I had a collapsible on my scoped 20" HBAR. It tended to recoil a bit much and I could never get a decent cheekweld. I put the A2 stock on it and it was cherry.

Now, I also have a 14.5" M4gery that has a collapsible...much butter than an A2.

Depends on what I'm doing with it.

Well, none of my ARs have A2 stocks anymore because I much prefer A1 length.  They all have A1-length fixed stocks (Colt, Cav, ACE, fixed VLTOR, etc.) or collapsibles used in the A1-length position.

But I just can't get past the look of a collapsible on a 20" (or even a 16" Dissipator, for that matter).  Functionally, they would be just fine for me but the aesthetics just bother me somehow.

Silly and baseless, I know... I should be ashamed.

The mount is a LaRue SPR, and I think the BUIS is either a LaRue or an A.R.M.S.

I just don't know....

16" or 20" for an iron sight gun with a M93B...

'Tag' I suppose...

This topic comes up every so often.

The consensus seems to be, by my observation, that...

It's strange looking, but functional.

Right, LaRue Tactical SPR-E and a KAC 600m BUIS.

If you mean "offhand" as opposed to from a bench/rest, yes except for sigting optics or shooting my varminters from their bipods.

If you mean a "traditional high-power offhand" stance, no - I shoot my ARs "hunkered down."

Why?

That's what I meant. It seems that for most people, it is awkward to use a combat shooting stance with a fixed stock, unless they are quite tall.

I like the A2 stock myself... the cheek weld always lines up the sights for me and the stock (and I imagine good coll. stocks too) doesn't wiggle or anything like that.

But for a trunkgun/hiking gun I would go 16" pencil with a 4-pos car stock.

Just something about iron sights....

CMT Numbered upper
Bushmaster Carry Handle
Bushmaster 20" 1/7 Govt profile barrel
MI two piece rails
TD VFG and rail covers
Bushmaster lower
MagPul MIAD grip
MagPul M93B stock
MagPul Trigger guard

Without the rails its light and points as good as a carbine for me. No batteries to die, and no optics to break. Greatest cheek weld since my Vltor A1 rifle stock. Balance is great with the 93B and stock handguards. A little nose heavy with the rails.

What I'm saying is that it should be restored to the original SP1 spec. i.e. fixed A1 stock, A1 grip, triangular HGs, etc.
