Which version of the A.R.M.S. #40 flip-up rear sight should I get?
Which elevation?

Thanks,

40A2 if you like the big aperture to be the default, 40L if you want the little one.

Anyone have pics of the aperatures up close?

Yep, looks like normal apertures. I like the regular #40.

I like the #40 also. Here's a decent pic of mine:

Just a ? under this post...

Should the buffer tube just unscrew from the lower receiver?

40A2.  I tried the 40, and the hacked off small peeper looked wierd to my eyes.  I like how they default to the larger aperture, though, which is IMHO better.

It looks weird to my eyes as well, but I need that cut aperature to clear the bottom part of my TA01.  The regular aperature would be a "no go."

I almost never use the large aperature. I love that 40L. It's so unobtrusive and  it defaults to the small aperature.

I bought a ARMS 40 just to find out that my front post was a bit too low.  It's a bushmaster LEO M4 Carbine.  So, if you have the same rifle, you may want to preorder the $5 taller front post.

Don't let the 40L small aperture get you down.  It took about 4 minutes for me to push out the pin, unscrew the assembly, take off the small aperture, screw it back on and push the pin back in.  Mine is on a 9mm AR so I only needed the large aperture and thats what I have now  Very easy to do.  I am not saying that the 40L is for everyone, but don't let the default to the small hole make your decision for you.  It is a reversible condition

Hope this Helps,

Debo

How long does it take to change from small to large aperatures?\

The same amount of time it takes with any other AR - just flip it.

I've got 2 #40s and I love em.  However if I were to do it again I'd get the 40Ls.  Jack indicated you could get same plane apertures and that feature would make it worthwhile IMHO.

Which would be the best all around?
