I am ordering a Bushmaster with the SIR system on Monday.  Since the SIR adds weight, would it be better to go with the superlight barrel or a 14.5" M4 type vs. the 16" M4 barrel?  Since the SIR's free floating advantages really take over at over 200 yds, would the 14.5" barrel be a poor choice?   This is my 1st short, CQB type A/R.  Thanks for the advice!

I'd go with the M4 profile.  It's not that much heavier than the standard forearm.   Really..........free float helps at any range.  Barrel whip, harmonics, whatever you want to call it effects the POI.

For me, it's all about retaining as much downrange usefullness (read: fragmentation) with XM193 ammo as possible. Thus, the longer the barrel, the greater the envelope.

Long story short, 16" at a minimum.

YMMV
