I've got a Cav-arms lower I'm planning on using for 9mm. I'd like it to shoot 556 if I ever feel like it too.

I've heard the DPMS hammer works with both 556 and 9mm but the LPK sucks. Any input?

My most recent build (9mm) used a LPK from CMMG (I believe they sell DPMS parts), and a JP trigger.  No problems.  Trigger is good, and I can use both 9mm bolt & 5.56 bolt/carrier.

Is that the JP competition trigger for $132? Not sure i want to pay that much right away.

You can get it for $112 from Brownells if you have a C&R or other FFL.

You will have to decide what it is worth. But a good trigger makes a world of difference.

I've never had any problems with centerfire, but I've been getting light primer strikes with a rimfire setup.  Might have to go back to factory springs for the .22 conversion.

I have used both Chip McCormick and Timney triggers in Cav Arms lowers with an Olympic .45 upper. Both work fine. The front corner of the FCG recess has to be trimmed a little to accomodate the square front corner of the trigger block of the McCormick, aftermarket pins are necessary to retain the Timney in the Cav lower, the set screws Timney expects to bear on the receiver floor won't work on the plastic receiver.

For that matter, the DPMS FCG works fine, too, it's just long, heavy and creepy relative to all the target guns I normally play with.

Bear in mind that once you put in your selector, it's there for life, the one piece triggers are locked in.

I drilled the detent hole all the way through to the grip, installed a threaded piece of brass tube (5-40) with a set screw that allows relief of spring tension on the detent( like taking the grip off a traditional lower); thus can the selector be removed without hammer and punch.

There are several ways I've seen to get the selector out.
