So I've got a pretty standard AR-15 and I'm looking to spice it up.  I want to get a four rail handguard for it and I'm not which size I need since I've seen a lot of different sizes out there.  I'm looking for suggestions and and places to pick up a reasonably priced one.  Any help out there would be great.  Heres what I got, full Stag build.  Thanks.

So is that what I'm looking for, a Carbine lenght handguard, because I've seen a lot of different sizes and some of them look the same to me.

Well I have a 14.5" w/ 1.5" hider from CMMG and that is what I needed. I aint no expert and just did some measurements and pic comparisons to be sure. What is your upper?

Mine's a 16" barrell and I don't know what you mean about a hider.  I'm not able to measure mine because I'm not in the states right now and it is.  Just wanting to order some new things while I'm away so I can play with them when I get back.

well the barrel is 14.5" long then to meet CA Bullcrap they have to add the 1.5" tip at the end to make it 16". Look at my previous setup and count the ribs and it looks to be same as mine so that handguard should work.

Yeah, that looks pretty much identical to mine.  Thanks for the help you two.  Really appreciate it.

I just ordered that handguard from Bowers Tactical, found it in the EE here.  I plan on getting a foregrip like that, probably a Surefird light and I got a red dot on the way.  Now I just have to wait for vacation to put it all together, another five months.  It's going to be a long wait.

Great first post!

If you have a standard 16" carbine, then you would use "CAR" length handguards.

I'm a contractor working communications in Kuwait.

Yeah, I'm slowly learning things about the AR.  This site is incredibly helpful, especially with all those out there having all that experience.  And I got an answer to my question in ten minutes.  Thanks again.

Yes, you currently have a carbine length handguard...a.k.a. M4(fat/oval), CAR(skinny/round), 7"
Mid-length handguards are 9"...
Rifle length hand guards are 12"...
FYI, there are a few manufacturers(Daniel Defense, Troy, etc.) of carbine handguards that surround & extend past the front sight base. So, you are not limited to the carbine length.

my .02 cents.....

Midwest Industries does make a great inexpensive 4 rail HG..
It installs WITHOUT the need to remove the FSB...
just cut off the delta ring and springs and install!

However, for a couple of $ more ($163), I'd suggest the free float model...MC-20..

Midwest Industries MC-20 FF HG at Bravo

The FF got my accuracy up to .747 inches - 5 shot group using
a RRA entry carb and a Nikon 6.5 - 20 scope on a bench!
The RRA is a 1 MOA rifle with match ammo - I use Black Hills 69 g SMK HP.

The point here is a Free Float HG is KEY for precision
and accuracy - right behind the barrel and ammo!!

Spend the extra $40+ ...you'll be amazed!!!

You only have to remove the delta ring assembly for the MI free float models.  The non-free float models go on just like standard handguards, and require you to use the delta ring assembly.  I have a mid-length and rifle length set of the MI non free float handguards, and they are well made, well finished, in spec and lock up tight.

Why re-post something containing incorrect information?  That does the OP no good whatsoever.

I was concerned  there for a second.  I don't even know what a delta ring is much less how to cut it.  Learn more every day.

As far as free float, those are nice, but I'm leaning towards more cost effectective.  I don't compete or anything and I"m a decent enough shot to keep myself from getting mad when I hit the range.
