Hello all,

I'm wondering where to get a 5.5" 9mm flash hider.  I want my 9mm build to be an 11.5 + 5.5 setup, but I have only seen this setup pre-made in the olympic system, not in the RRA/Colt system that I am using.

So if no one makes it as a complete upper or barrel, is there a place to get just the 9mm 5.5" flash hider?

Thanks,
Z3roCoo1

Being that the FH will have to be pinned and welded (or equivalent perm. Attachment to make legal 16" given no SBR) I would have someone cut a barrel to 11.5”, thread it 1/2x28 and bore out a 5.56 5.5” FH for you and permanently attach it.  Given that you will not be able to un-screw it there is no chance of threading on a regular 5.56 FH and getting unpleasant results.  I am sure ADCO could do it for you at a reasonable price.

Steve at hallmarksmallarms made mine.  Its a 556 from Model1 and they bored it out for 9mm.  Works like a charm.

Thanks for the replies so far, but I have done what most have suggested so far.  I initially sent out an email to olympic to see if they sell their flash hiders seperate (no reply so far).  I saw no such beast in 9mm on the Bushmaster website (only 5.56).  I also contacted adco, who were happy to do the upper for me but said that I would have to supply my own flash-hider as they dont stock or (apparently?) make them.

I will look into the kurts option....

Thank you and if anyone knows of a source for pre-made 5.5" flash hiders in 9mm, please let me know.

Total Silence Inc. is making a 3" version for me!  See my post a few down from here for a similar issue...  ADCO will do anything you need/want/desire and FAST.  I was up there today at the shop talking to the 'smith durring his daily drop off.  They are good and FAST!

Have your barrel cut and thread, use 1/2-28, and use the Bushmaster  5.5" hider... it has a 5/8" ID.

Nothing to fuss with other than the permanent attachment.   The Oly 5.5" is similar dimensions.

sbr, so the internal dimensions of the bushmaster is large enough for the 9mm setup without any modification???  This is the first I heard of this.  Anyone else care to confirm (not doubting, but like to have overall consensus).

Thank you all for your replies and suggestions... still no word back from olympic...

The 3" remnant of my 1989 Oly at left with a 9mm Ranger SXT (I occassionly slide this remnant over my Uzi barrel) ------ and the remains of my Bushmaster on the right with a 9mm Ranger SXT... looking inside the Bushmaster, you will see the little bit of threaded portion to screw onto barrel..

Better off asking in the barrel/upper or 1 of the general discussion forums where there is more traffic...

Ah, so the 5.5" flashhider does not "funnel down" (for lack of better words) to a smaller diameter towards the threads like the A2 that I have on my 5.56 AR now?  So basically, the opening would be 1/2 inch (per threading diameter) and then open up to 5/8?

This would mean that a standard 5.5" flash from bushmaster would work as long as the threading I had on my 9mm barrel was 1/2-28 (the standard AR threading).

This is really cool, and I havent seen it meantioned before... seems like it would have saved those paying to have a 5.5" bored out and re-threaded a lot of money.

Bushmaster sells a slipover XM177E2 style that slips back over a 16" barrel w/o having to perm attach it.  If yours is 16" and you don't want to cut and thread it.  I think Sog armory sells them too.

Is this the flash hider from Bushmaster that you are referring to?

5.5 Slip Over FH

If so, will this work on a Colt 6450?

Thanks,
Accountant

We can help you out.  It's not the internal bore size of the FH that is the problem when using the 5.56 flashhider described, it's the barrel wall thickness that is the issue, it's too thin to pin and weld with a 9mm bore.  We use a different way to permenantly install it to bring your barrel into complience.

Steve,

Do you make a slip-over version? I don't want to cut my 6450.

Thanks,
Accountant

Threads on a COLT 9mm are different then a 223 barrel...
