I'm starting to work on getting parts together for another upper. I need a brand new 20" pre-ban 5.56 1/7 chrome lined bbl and they seem to be pretty hard to find. I've looked over quite a few vendors websites (Bushmaster, RRA, Armalite, Model 1, Fulton Armory and probably a few more I'm forgetting) to no avail. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

FWIW, cost is not that much of an object. I already have a 16" 1/9 upper so I'm dead set on a 20". I want the extra velocity the 20" offer and I want the 1/7 twist for heavier rounds. I'm not trying to build an SPR so I really don't want a to spend the $$$ on a Douglas or Kreiger bbl.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the tip Max. I contacted them about 1.5-2 months ago and they said they didn't know when they were going to get any more (20" 1/7). I also just checked their website and didn't see any 20" bbls being offered but I sent them off an e-mail inquiring about a bbl with these specs. Can't do any harm to ask.

What's wrong with Bushmaster?  They have chrome lined 14.5" and 20" barrels in 1:7, just call and ask.

For the right price, I would probably sell you my Colt pre-ban (no bayo lug) Match HBAR 20" upper... barely fired. 1/7 twist, not sure about chrome lining...

Absolutely nothing. They will be my first choice depending on the wait. I know they have 1/7 20" bbls - I asked them when I s/w with about the new upper I just bought from them. Thanks for the info though.

Thank you for the offer Energizer but I've already got a barely used upper receiver so I'm just looking for a barrel. The upper that I'm going to put the 20" bbl isn't chrome lined so it's got to go [:)]

I would get on the phone to Bushmaster ASAP.  I recently, within a month, purchased a pre-ban flat top upper with a Gov't profile 20", 1/7 twist barrel.  I ordered it on a Monday, had it by Friday.

Bushmaster M16 Government Type 20in Barrel.  I have a couple and they are really nice.

You can also usualy get the same barrel from Gunsmoke for a bit less, but their customer service is not as good as Bushmaster.

I've got a USGI barrel sitting in front of me with about 20 rounds though it.  It was removed to be replaced with a Krieger for match use.

I have no clue how much it is worth. I've been saving it for a future project, but have been debating lately about just doing a 16" project instead.

I might be willing to part with it, if you can't find one.  Let me know if you have no luck elsewhere - and we can talk possible price.

BM advertises as a 1/9 but if you call and ask specifically for a 1/7 it's usually no problem.

I did this about 2 months ago. Cost about $209. Great barrel, Very happy.

What kind of accuracy are you guys getting from the BM 1:7 20" gov prof bbls? (free floated)

If you order the BM 20" gov't barrel online, they will send you one with 1/9 twist.  Found this out the hard way.  I am pretty sure you have to call it in to get one with 1/7 twist.

Well, I'm good to go now. I contacted right2keep and I've snagged the last FN barrel he had. [:)} Thanks again 2minkey. I really appreciate the heads up. Sometimes I miss things in EE if they're not on the first few pagesl.

Mine's not free-floated, but everything I've shot at 50 and 100 yards with mine was right where I put the ACOG donut.  Using Q3131a and Rem UMC 55gr, with minimal effort resting the forearm on my soft case, something like 2MOA.

What sort of free-float tube are you going to put on it?  I got my barrel when Bushmaster was only doing them in pre-ban configurations, so I had to get KKF to put a fake FH on it, so the only thing I could to to FF would be a SIR.

Not my post, but I'm trying to decide whether I need a stainless custom bbl for my SPRish project, or if I should just make a FF 20" chrome-lined thing.  I'll prob use a FF RAS either way.  Looking for MOA or better with a threaded bbl.
