I'm planning on building an AR, but I'm being very indecisive about which length.

Here's what I currently have:

10.5" SBR AR (with flat-top and detach handle)
16" HBAR AR (with carry handle)
20" HBAR AR (with flat-top and detach handle)

So what should I build? (and why)

And should I get the flat-top or the regular upper receiver?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking about.

Either that - or maybe a 16" lightweight barrel profile.

you should build a 20" A1 with slab side and triangle handguards.  original vietnam style.

My suggestion...build an FAL Para.

Now that the AWB is DEAD...how about a nice EBR in 7.62?
With all the options out there, you can make one hell of a rifle now.

I'm tellin' you Prof, you'll never regret it!

That is pretty sweet - but doesn't that get pricey real fast?

I also DO like the suggestion of a slab-side A1 with triangular handguards.

I just got an slick sided upper with pencil barrel from Sarco, man let me tell you, it's a world of differance between hefting that and hefting the H-Bar around. I like the pencil barrel A LOT!

I voted 16"

I'd go with a light-under-the-handguards M4 profile. I got one and love it.
