| Can anyone recommend a good 1-4 variable power optic with a good battery life rating? Thanks. |

S&B Short Dot 1-4 Police Marksman II. Optical clarity is ungodly good. Battery life >100 hrs at setting 11 (max), and has an automatic cutoff after 6 hrs to save power. Brightness at setting 11 (max) is comparable to an aimpoint, though the illumination is clearly visible at midday here in Texas on setting 8; for nighttime use I usually run it on 4 or 5; and 1-3 are for NVS use. I don't know how long the batteries last at those settings. However, the settings seem to relate to EI, so setting 11 isn't 9% brighter than setting 10, it's twice as bright. So it's quite possible that the battery life at setting 8 could be around (100 * 2^(11-8)) = 800 hrs, and at setting 5 the batteries could last around (100 * 2^(11-5)) = 6400 hrs.

Go with Trijicon Accupoint 1-4 it runs on tritium and fiber optic no battery needed.

| Thanks for the options given so far. Both are really cool and fit what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, the SB is out of my price range. The Trijicon is a good option, however, I'd prefer an optic that runs on batteries. My understanding is when a tritium optic reaches it's half-life (or beyond) you have to buy a new optic or have the tritium replaced (does anyone have experience with this specifically?). I figure a changing a battery is a quicker fix in that situation. Any thoughts? |

Quoted: The Tritium is only useful when it is completely dark outside or you won't see it. Any other lighting condition defaults to the FO which never runs out. So unless you are going to shoot in complete darkness.....
