There were 11 of us on the range today that had various M-4 clones of every kind. I've decided that there are some things that really make it usable. First is a red dot sight. I have the Aimpoint M-2 and I am very happy with it, several others had the ML-2 and were also happy. Two had the Hakko and one was happy the other wasn't and is going to order the real deal tonight, I gave him Grants site. Two had the EOTech and were as happy as the Aimpoint folks. One had the more expensive ACOG and was happilly hitting the steel plates at 300 meters with a Colt M-4. This guy works in a gun store and put it together over a period of time. he others had the A-2 and were deciding on what to get. Next a aluminium handguard, I have a Surefire M-73 and it is really tight, I will probably put one on all my ARs. The Colt had a Knights, and others had the YHM. All of us with the alum handguards had vertical front grips and they REALLY make a difference. Mine is a simple first Samco Delrin and it works. I have the A-2 sight and the set up Grant sold me really does co-locate and boy does that work. I was shocked after zeroing the Aimpoint that when I looked through the goosneck that I could see the front sight clearly through the rear peepsight and the red dot was balanced on the front sight. I used this to hit the 300 and 400 meter plates. The 400 took a bit of Kentucky windage but darned if I didn't hit it 4 out of 6 without a change of vertical. |
