Thanks This is all going to depend on how much $$$ you want to spend. Barrels: Rainier Arms, Noveske, Lothar Walther, BCM, Daniel Defense, Spike's Tactical, White Oak Armament, WIlson Combat - Anyone of these will serve your purpose, now you just need to decide on length, barrel specs, gas system(Ex. 16", 1:7 Twist, Mid-Length) BCG: BCM, Daniel Defense, Young Mfg, Rubber City Armory, WMD Guns, Rainier Arms, Spike's Tactical - These will also server your purpose, you will also need to decide on finish and full/semi auto (Ex. Phosphate, Nickel Boron, Chrome, Nitride and Full Auto BCG or Semi Auto BCG) Upper Receiver: MEGA, Seekins Precision, Spike's Tactical, CMT Tactical, Rainier Arms, etc. - There are A LOT of companies that make this and as long as it's MIL SPEC, you shouldn't have an issue, you just need to decide on what kind (Ex. Forged or Billet) There are a lot of choices out there and it can make you go dizzy, but always remember that you get what you pay for. Good Luck! |

I will be hunting coyotes and deer. I will not be shooting over 200 yards. Mainly around 100-150 I ma not looking to break the bank. I am looking to build a solid upper but nothing to extravagant. May 400-500 after all is said and done. This would put you in a run of the mill upper so you might as well just by a complete one from PSA or such. Complete uppers start in the mid $400's now days. It will cost you more than your budget for better parts unless you happen to find them used. If your budget was $1000 I would say build what you want then to get better quality but your current budget is really what entry level stuff starts at for the most part. |

Ok. If I am willing to go 1000. What parts should I use? PSA makes some decent stuff that won't break the bank. I have a couple of their uppers and am very happy with them. If you look on EE you can find some decent prices on lightly used or new stuff. AIM surplus usually has good prices on uppers too. You won't save much, if anything, by assembling your own parts. It is fun to assemble an upper but unless you really get lucky in the EE section you won't save. I just assembled an upper with my son for target shooting at 100 yds. maybe 200 yds. We did it for fun and on the cheap. 16" stainless Red X barrel - $130 AIM surplus Upper - $70 EE low profile gas block- $20.50 EE gas tube - $20 Muzzle brake - $35 YHM Diamond rail - $125 rguns BCG - $125 BCM mod 4 CH - $40 DPMS upper parts - $25 Total - $590.50. I could have bought something from PSA for around this figure but he and I wanted to assemble it. |

Ok. If I am willing to go 1000. What parts should I use? Here's what I would build with that budget: Barrel: BCM 16" 1:7 Twist CHF Barrel - $239 Upper Receiver: Rainier Arms Stripped Upper Receiver - $110 Rail System: Geissele SMR MK2 - $300 Gas Block & Gas Tube: Geissele Super Gas Block - $69 BCM Mid-Length Gas Tube - $13 BCG & Charging Handle Rainier Arms Full Auto BCG - $152 BCM Charging Handle - $45 Muzzle Brake/Compensator: Rainier Arms XTC Compensator - $57 This comes to $972. Just under $1,000. You would also need to get an upper parts kit since the upper receiver is stripped, but that shouldn't be more than $30. Hope this helps you out. Everyone has different ideas and tastes, but for a $1000 budget I think you would be VERY pleased with the parts above. |
