The Tromix website hasn't been updated in quite some time, but I wanted to give you guys a list of the calibers available on the AR-15 platform.

17 Mach IV
17 Remington
Tactical 20
.223
6mm PPC
.338x39
440 CorBon
.458 SOCOM
.475 Tremor
.50 AE

Discontinued - 44 Rem Mag, 44 AutoMag

Coming Soon - 30 Carbine and 30/221

I can do just about any caliber based on the .221, .222, .223, 7.62x39, and 6 PPC cases.  There are a shitload of wildcats on those cases.

Tony...
What's the expected barrel life with that screaming little Mach IV?  I'm a dedicated big bore junkie (all hail Tony, all hail) but am thinking of going over to the tiny side of the Force.
Thanks.

The Mach IV is a .221 fireball necked to 17 cal, so the barrel life should be better than a 17 Rem.  Personally, I have never fired enough rounds to wear one out, so I am not sure what the barrel life would be.  You may want to ask the question on the Varmint Hunters board since a lot of guys over there shoot the 17's.

Will do.
My 458 dissy just keeps on going and going...with the bonus of scaring the crap out of the unsuspecting rubes at the range who just can't get into the "mouse guns".

Why did the 44 Automag get discontinued?

ETA on the 30 carbine?  I'd love to have that.

How about 7.62x25 Tokerov? Mmmmmmmm drum fed!

I just edited my post to include the Tactical 20.  I missed that one.  The Tact 20 is really coming on strong in the varmint hunting circles.  Tossing a 33gr bullet at 4300fps makes it extremely flat shooting.  I just got word last week that the gun writer testing the Tromix Tact 20 fired a .158" group at 100 yards with the thing.

I am hoping to finish the 30 Carbine this weekend.

The 44 Rem Mag and 44 AutoMag were both discontinued due to feeding problems from the Desert Eagle magazines.  The rounds tended to feed real low when the magazine was full, and then gradually fed higher as the magazine emptied.  Only four 44 Magnunms and one 44 AutoMag was ever produced.

Tony, I am not familiar with all the rounds you mention and they may be comparable, but what about something like a .223 AI or .223 WSSM?

I want something with a heavier bullet than the .17's - along the lines of a 22-250 or a little hotter. What do you suggest?

Tony -
Will that .30 carbine rifle use M1 carbine mags?  Will it be blowback or gas-operated?

would a .221 equal 5.45 x 39 russian. like alexander arms .21 genghis.

If so I'd be very interested as it would be easier to get an upper from you.

I'd like to second the .30carbine idea, and
second, third, and possibly fourth the 7.62x25mm
idea. I don't think it absolutely would have to take drum mags, I'd be perfectly happy with the 30+ round PPSH and/or CZ-26 stick mags. How much would such a beast cost? I'm drooling already.

Tony,
What about the 5.7X28 that FN is producing?  The tactical guys or at least the threads I've seen on them don't like them as an anti personnel round.  Me either, but I bet it would be really a fun cartridge to shoot!  Maybe for the varmint crowd I dunno...
Thoughts?

Tony,

I just saw my first Tromix upper (50AE) at a gun shop today (Kirk's Gun Shop in El Paso).

Holy Shit!

I'm gonna get one for the shock factor alone.  I could probably reduce a building to rubble if I had enough ammo for that thing.  The ammo ain't cheap, but that's OK.

Sorry to reply so late here, but I have been out of town for awhile.

Omar - If you buy that upper, use Speer 325gr ammo in it.  You should see groups in the 1-1.5" range for five at 100 yards.

Cnatra - The 440 and 50AE use standard GI mags with a spacer block inserted in the front and a new (shorter) stainless steel follower.  You can buy the mag kits for $20 or complete 14 round mags for $40. 20's hold 5, 30's hold 10 and 40's hold 14 rounds.

RocketMan - I don't know anything about that FN cartridge, sorry.

Sambeaux - I dropped the 30 carbine when Olympic announced it earlier this year.  It's tough to sell custom $800+ uppers when you can get a production unit for $500.  I don't think the 7.62x25 has enough power to drive the AR gas operation, but I may be wrong.  I am not set up to do any blowback guns.

Clayton - I don't have the specs on the 5.45x39, but by looking at the two, I believe it has more case capacity than the .221 FireBall and I would expect it to be a bit faster when loaded to the same pressure levels.

Jersey - The 30 Carbine project was scrapped.

Markbo - I can do .223 AI, no problem, but the .223 WSSM will most likely break a standard AR-15 bolt.  Best bet for that one, is to buy it from Olympic Arms with their new bolt and receiver set up.
