I'm building a XM177 Pseudo clone...kind of.  An A2 upper receiver, with a 11-1/2" barrel w/5-1/2" flash hider  (DPMS barrel model BL-12).  I wanted something a little different, kind of a "retro" look, so I splurged and went with a set of Triangular CAR Handguards form Model 1 Sales.

I just received the barrel from Midway.  Much to my surprise, the end cap next to the front sight is not triangular like every other AR I own - ITS ROUND!  Since the flash hider is pinned, and can't be removed, I think I'm pretty much screwed from using the triangular handguards, correct?

Is there any way to get a triangular handguard cap on there without removing the front sight?

The pinned FSB's are removable.  Just drive out the pins, slide the FSB and handguard cap off.  Put the triangle cap on and reinstall the FSB.  Done.

That gets the FSB out of the way, but its only going to move about 1-1/2" down the barrel until it comes up against the pinned and welded Flash hider.  The only way I see to do it is to try to bend the round cap into a triangular one, or split a triangular one, and streach it over the barrel, neither will probably end up looking too good.

The first thing I'd try would be to contact Midway, explain your situation and see if they can help with a swap or a return. Should that not bring a solution the next step might be to contact ADCO and see if they think they can do anything for you. Plan C would be to punt; i.e., just go with standard round carbine handguards.

All carbines have round end caps and all rifles have triangle end caps. Mid lengths have either round or triangle end caps. Rifle handguards fit round and triangle end caps. Carbine handguards only fit round end caps.

Unless your talking about triangular carbine handguards, IIRC they are only made to fit triangle caps.

Opps.  Missed the fact you have a pinned FH.  You can either cut the FH or FSB to change the HG cap.

Oh well....good excuse for another carbine build!  "Honey, these handguards didn't fit.  I have to buy a new barrel to install them on."  Her: "Whatever....."
