I just received an ambi charging handle in the mail that would not quite fit either of the mil spec uppers I have.  It would slide in and drop into place but not charge forward.  I measured it compared with the charging handle I have that does work fine.  The machined guides on the handle did not align with the slot in the upper so after about 20 minutes of filing and fitting, I got it to work perfectly.

My filing marks are now bright metal.  Should I finish them with some sort of coating or just keep them well-lubricated?

Thanks in advance!  My first and second builds are almost complete!  Looking forward to sharing the pics!

its aluminum, so it wont rust.  you could use some krylon, or just a black sharpie.  just depends on ho good you want it to look.

That's what I was thinking.  It won't show when the handle is in use.  I figure if I keep it properly lubricated, it will be fine.
thanks,

I think that if you have a charging handle that needs fitted to a mil-spec upper you should probably throw it away and buy a new one from BCM or Ranier.

Thanks for the links to the touch-up liquid!

I certainly prefer to buy quality products that fit properly.....but I'm a newbie and don't know all the preferred parts manufacturers yet.  But I figured before I could box it back up, call for return authorization, drive to the nearest post office and wait for a replacement, I could spend a bit of filing time to make it fit.  Believe me, I'm 100% with you on this topic!

Thx,
