What's you thought on Saber Defense Barrels , I was thinking of the 14.5" midlength gas. Are they any good?

they are top tier barrels. Some of the best on the market (have owned 2 and still have them. A carbine 16" and a Midlength 16") Planning on getting a 20"

the thunder cat roll mark is pretty badass too

For the money I think there are better barrels out there.  I am dissapointed in my 20" SD to say the least.

This is just my opinion so don't go all ape s&%t on me guys.

sabre is one of those best kept secret brands, they dont do much advertising, and right now dont really need the extra demand from the commercial market considering they recently got a contract for M16s for the Marines and NAVY, but alot of shooters do use them, I'm surprised more people havent responded (

I've got a 24" Sabre Defence barreled upper and it is by far the most accurate AR I own. It's scary how well this thing shoots.

This 5 shot, 100yd group measured .232" center to center using 69gr Sierra Matchkings. Obviously this was the best group of the day, but it will consistantly shoot 1/2 MOA.

True.  That could be it.  But I'm not a rich man and an experience like that leaves a bad taste in your mouth.  My two BCM barrels have been great so thats where my hard earned money will continue to flow.

Have not had anything but great experience with them.  However, I think the reason you don't see more of them mentioned is because they are still charging Obama prices when there are comparable barrels out being sold now that are half of what they want.  If you find a good deal on one, I would not turn it down.  My $0.02

I've got one of their very first midlength uppers. It's accurate but what's more impressive is the weapon has never had a single malfunction.

The one I have seen and shot was very well made and shot very well.  My friend has two rifles one a DPMS and one a Sabre and it puts the DPMS to shame on accuracy and precision.  My Lothar Walther barrel shots nearly exact groups as the Sabre.

I give them a +1 vote on my end.

I had a 20" and it was really picky on bullets, I wanted to shoot 55's out of it for Pdogs but I had to slow them way down to get any kind of decent group.  It shot 68gn Hornady's ok but didn't like 69gn Noslers, 77's were ok but not what I wanted to shoot with it.  None were great or even what I would consider good out of a $300+ (I think)barrel.  I've shot a lot of other barrels that performed way better.

I picked up one in a trade a few years back and it was the best thing I ever traded for. It's a 18" stainless, fluted, middy and when I had a scope on it would do 1/2 MOA or less when I did my part It now wears a red dot but will still out shoot me.

Tagging this post.  I ordered one last week (20" 5.56mm) and when I receive it I will inspect the bore and chamber and give an initial report.  As other people have already stated, they now have a gov't contract so they must be doing at least one thing right.

Update:

I received my 20" Sabre barrel today.  The quality is outstanding.  This is bar none the finest made A2 gov't rifle barrel I have ever seen.  Bore looks great, external contouring looks great, finish is incredible, and the attention to detail is very impressive.  This is a great barrel guys.

You ain't gonna get the Thunder Cat logo on their parts, only on complete guns.
I have a few of their lowers and they have the shitty dot matrix lettering and I have seen their parts barrels with the same.
As a matter of fact, the dot matrix on the barrels was hard to read it was so shitty.

It is a great barrel, but a don't expect a Thunder Cat.

I personally think Sabre is one of the very best AR makers out there. I just think the lettering looks cheap on the parts, it doesn't reflect the quality of the product at all.

Im glad Im not the only one who feels that way, its almost as if they couldnt be bothered to put any good quality engravings after building such a fine product. The engraving on my lower is really shallow and hard too see unless under the right light Never the less, still great products.

I have a 24" 1:8 flutted Saber coming for a precision rig build I have going on.  Hopefully we can put some rounds through it and start breaking it in next month.

I bought my barrel off the recomendation from a buddy who has the same one and it getting 1/2" groups at 200 and hitting dinner plates out to 1000 7/10 times.

Pics will follow in a few weeks when I get home and put her together.

Apparently their secret is in their CNC honing process.  They go through great pains to make damn sure that their bores are true pre button-pull.  They are also using a very high quality alloy and a very consistent plater.  I was very impressed from what I read in that article.  I can't wait to shoot my 20 incher.

Again, the OP was not asking about a SS barrel. I was referring to Sabre's milspec barrels which are a bit more expensive than your SS. However, I agree that is a pretty good price on your SS from PK.
There were only a couple mentions of SS barrels in the thread when I posted, but those are of course not what the OP was interested in therefore I did not address them.
